Hi everyone, I had been to Disney World several times as a child, then we went when I was pregnant with our first son and then we went twice this past year with the boys. We are already going again in February, and that trip is all planned out.

Now...my husband and I just decided (yesterday) that we want to go again in June without the kids. My parents will be watching them which is nerve racking because I have never been away from them before, but it is well needed and deserved.

This will be the first vacation my husband and I have had alone (never had a honeymoon:sad1:).

So, I was trying to find out where we want to stay.
We have stayed in Pop Century, All Star movies (which I hated) and Port Orleans Riverside. We loved Port Orleans because it was quiet and peaceful and we loved the boat ride to Down Town Disney.

We would love to stay in a Deluxe or Moderate when it's just us. I love the way the rooms in the Contemporary look, the beds look so comfy and I love the light, calming colors. I would love to take the kids to AKL because I know they would love the Savannah view, so that's out. My husband likes the WL, not sure what about it, but he likes it. We have never stayed in any of these, so we are planning on doing some drop in's when we get there in February. I'm not too sure about the Polynesian because my husband is in the Army and we just left Hawaii last July, we lived there for 3 years (not as glamorous as it sounds) so I am not sure it will be all that exciting to us.

Anyways...here's my dilemma, if you can even call it that.
If anyone has any other ideas of things we should do without the kids in Disney, I would love to hear them, because everything in my Disney brain consists of fun things for the family.

Thanks so much for your help!!!
Jenny

Since you liked POR so much, maybe you should give POFQ a try. It's similar to POR, but it is much smaller. It is also very quiet and peaceful, and has the boat to Downtown Disney. It only has one main pool, but you would be also be allowed to use the pools at POR too if you wanted. POFQ is very compact so no room is really far from anything at all. Good luck deciding, and have a great trip!

How about Coronado Springs? More of an adult feel in my opinion.

I would consider the Boardwalk area that has many adult venues to choose from and it close proximity to all the Epcot restaurants. The resorts would be either the Boardwalk, Beach Club, or Yacht Club. Also you may consider renting from a DVC owner to get a villa and save some money as well.

Oops.. ok! I'm sure you'll have a great time there in February then!! Based on what you said, I think you're really going to enjoy POFQ.

First, THANK YOU for your husbands service to this great country of ours!

As far as resorts....Since you liked POR, why not try POFQ, it is more intimate, you can walk between the resorts perhaps to grab a drink at POR when BOB the piano guy is there one night, you can still jump on a boat to DTD also. If deluxe is more what you are thinking, I'd say hold off on AKL if you think the kids would miss out (we actually went and would not return to that one, but thats another story :rotfl2:) GF is beautiful, and I would also skip Poly since you said you've been in Hawaii for a while....Whatever you choose, have a wonderful trip!!! By the way we LOVE por!!!

If your husband wants to stay a WL I say give it a chance, my husband and I stayed there in Dec. 08 and it was his first time staying deluxe and I knew he would love it but I didn't realize how much until I saw his face when we walked through the main doors and into the lobby.
I think the WL is romantic, it has a rustic feel. Also it is one of the cheaper Deluxe resorts that does not feel like it is cheaper.
WL has boat that goes to MK and fort wilderness and CR. Have you ever done the Hoop dee doo at fort wilderness? If not you should I think you and your husband would enjoy that.

What ever you choose you will have a great time.

I vote for the Boardwalk Inn. We stopped there for a drink and sat in rocking chairs on the huge outdoor balcony. Lovely!!!

Any of the boardwalk area hotels would be my choice because you can easily walk over to Epcot. One evening you could skip dinner and just sample around the world. We ate at the Flying Fish, on the Boardwalk, and it was fantastic! You could walk right over to the evening fireworks at Epcot. Soooo easy then to get back to your hotel.

We have stayed at Wilderness Lodge. It is very nice! There are all these wonderful, private nooks and crannies to sit, enjoy a drink, people watch. We stayed in a room with a balcony. Wonderful way to wrap up a day sitting and relaxing. The lobby of the Wilderness is soooo cool.

My husband and I honeymooned at WL and it was wonderful! It's both romantic and majestic, convenient to the MK but at the same time you feel tucked away. You also get all the amenities of a Deluxe but at a better price. Find one of the smaller fireplaces and cuddle up for a romantic drink together!

Especially since you'll be able to do this vakay w/o the kids, why not consider a split stay so you can stay at a couple resorts you want to try rather than just one? :thumbsup2 That what we did all the time before we had kids. I'd still like to do it now but DH is less inclined while they are young anyway. Do a few days at a mod and then move up to a deluxe! It gives you something to look forward to in experiencing a new resort mid way through your trip. WDW makes it easy in moving your luggage for you. This way you don't have to choose ONE, you can choose a few. ;)

I won't try to sell you on any one or two resorts because I think you can figure out what you like themewise and ammenity wise for yourself and everyone likes different things.:cloud9: Obviously my favorite resort is in my signature. Liked it a LOT, enough to commit a wad of cash to it to visit regularly. ;) The only regret there is no monorail. I still keep begging for them to extend it all over the place but they don't listen. :rolleyes1 j/k kinda :rolleyes1

Well, many of the things would not be DIS boards appropriate, if you get me drift. ;)

Try to think of all those things you wanted to do that you didn't because the kids would find it boring and do those. I was an AP holder for a couple of years and had the opportunity to kill time on property without going to the parks. Some of my favorite things are below.

Touring the resorts. Just take the bus to some of the resorts you have never been to and explore.

I like to go to the Poly and grab a cup of coffee from Kona before heading out back and walking the grounds. They are beautiful and peaceful while everyone is in the parks. There is a walkway that you can take towards the GF. I do that and continue walking right on to the GF. You guys could stop and get some photos at the Wedding Chapel if it is a weekday and no ceremony is going on.

Find an evening with Wishes and plan a meal in the California Grill that corresponds to the show.

Take the all day back stage tour that the kids wouldn't make it through. I believe it is called behind the Magic or Something like that.

When all else fails, see my first sentence.

As for which resort, that is kind of subjective. If money were no object I would choose Bay Lake Tower or an MK view room in the Contemporary. Failing that I would go with The Boardwalk but that is because I like Epcot and love the Boardwalk area in the morning when there is no one there yet. I run the loop around the lake and down the canal towards DHS early an then sit by the water and eat a little breakfast from the bakery before Epcot opens. It is my favorite breakfast on property and I would take it over a Character meal any day.

Have fun.

I vote for either BW, BC/YC, or Swan and Dolphin. Even though Swan and Dolphin are not technically part of Disney you can usually get some pretty good deals on rooms and you get to use all of the Disney transportation to the parks and EMH. BW is wonderful though with all the entertainment, but ultimately because of Epcot being a walk/boat ride away along with HS.

Based on what you've said I'd go for either CR MK view or BWI/BC/YC.

As for adult activities, since you'll be on your honeymoon - well..... :teeth:

I second the suggestion to take a tour. Some of them won't allow kids on them anyway, so one of those would be fun to try. You could take the Segway tour, or go horseback riding. You could rent a water mouse and toodle around a lake. Or you could just take your time strolling, shopping and eating your way around WS.

There are a few restaurants on property that are better for adults than kids. Artist's Point at WL is supposed to be good, or you could spend the day at DTD followed by Cirque and a nice meal at one of DTD's restaurants.

Whatever you choose, have a great time! :goodvibes

I would stay near my favorite park. So for us it would be BC or BWI because we love Epcot (and MGM is close too). We especially love going to Epcot every evening to eat and then watch Illuminations. We like to walk around the WS and drink wine and beer, or other fun cocktails. So being able to walk home after a night of boozin' is high on our list. :thumbsup2

Any of the monorail resorts would be great if you prefer MK, I have stayed at them all. Just pick what you like best. :)

Love the idea of taking a tour. We did the Keys to the Kingdom tour several years back and very much enjoyed it! Cirque is another great idea. And there are many places to dine, so pick some places you wouldn't take your kids.

Just relax and have fun. You will have a great time!
