Please Help Me Choose a Hotel

Hi. I was wondering if any of you could give me any advice on which of the Good Neighbor Hotels I should choose. The trip is two adults. I was looking at the Economy Hotels, namely the Quality Inn & Suites and the Ramada Inn Maingate. We did look at one moderate hotel: Best Western Park Place. If anyone has stayed at these hotels or even the other Economy Hotels, could you tell me what you thought of your stay there? Were the rooms clean? Were the beds comfortable? Things of that nature. Thanks a lot for your help.

I've stayed at the Quality Inn on Manchester twice and will be again on Thursday. To me the rooms are adequate. I had no problems sleeping on the beds. They are a little small so depending on your group size it may be cramped.

It has a decent Continental breakfast. Make your own waffles. hard boiled eggs, toast, danishes, donuts, cereal.

Of the Good Neighbors around Disneyland, I've stayed at the HoJo, Del Sol, Tropicana, Best Western Anaheim Inn, Castle Inn, Holiday Inn Express, and the Quality Inn. By far my preferred of all those is the Anaheim Inn. The rest are perfectly acceptable, though.

Are you booking room only or a Disneyland package? Check prices for the Good Neighbor package that includes tickets and little perks (preferred seating, lanyard and pin, etc.). I am staying at the Sheraton Park (superior) 4 nights next week, and the package price there was less than for some of the hotels on Harbor - across the street from DLR. In any case - if you need tickets, the package price will probably be less than paying for the hotel and tickets separately.

My family and I have been 8 times, all of them we stayed with the Hojo (Howard Johnson Anaheim)...they have what is called the ET or Entertainment Rate...you buy the entertainment book that has all those coupons in it and in the front cover there is a plastic card, to book the room just call the Hojo "In-House reservations"...and to view when it is available go online to the Hojo and look up under "discounts", "entertainment card", and when it is available and your travel dates could be there, you can get your room for as little as $59 a night!

We have never had a bad visit there, they have always gone out of their way to make us feel at home and they are super friendly...and that says a lot because we are already friendly people (lol, Canadians!)...this hotel is a short 7 minute walk from DLR/DCA and even shorter if you walk in not at the front reception but through their parking lot!

Which ever hotel you choose I hope you have a very magical time! We sure do each time we go (we are already planning another trip!)...

I have been 5 times and have stayed at Candy Cane Inn (I was 5 so I remember NOTHING lol), Hojo's twice (I was younger and it was with my parents so quite a few years ago now) and Ramada Maingate twice (with my daughter once and my bf and kids the second time). Since it's been yearssssssss since I've stayed at Hojo's I will only comment on Ramada Maingate.

Last time we stayed was last year and it was good. No big frills or anything but the continental breakfast was fresh and a decent way to get the morning started. The kids loved the pool and I heard they have remodeled it this year as well. The rooms are older but very clean. The staff is friendly and it's a super short walk to the park.

We are going next month and are staying at the Desert Inn & Suites for the majority of our trip because we have a party of 6 this time. We are then transferring to the PP for our last two days just for something special and because 2 people in our group are leaving. If we didn't have the extra people at the start of our trip then I'm sure we'd be back at the Ramada Maingate.

We stayed at Ramada Maingate earlier this month and had a great stay. You can read my review and see a few pictures HERE. I'd definitely recommend it over the Quality Inn.

We stayed at Hojo's once on the Retro AP Rate. I'd only stay there again if the room did not face I-5. One of the worst night's sleep (or lack thereof) ever!

I will most likely be booking a Disneyland package. I’m not totally against a hotel that’s further away from the park. But since my friend and I will be driving to California from Pennsylvania (and back), we were leaning toward a hotel closer to the park. It seems like a nice idea that we could walk to the park and not have to worry about the car as much for a few days.

Do you find that Howard Johnson offers a good amount of days for the Entertainment Rate? We’ll be there at the beginning of October next year, if the time of year makes a difference. I haven’t purchased an Entertainment Book in years because I never seemed to use enough of the coupons to justify the cost. And I usually only stay at “Value” level hotels since I really only sleep and shower there before heading out for the day. But if I could get a rate like that at a Howard Johnson, I would definitely buy next year’s book just for that! Also, thank you for the well wishes. As an east coaster who’s been to Walt Disney World many times, this will be my first trip to Disneyland, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Thanks to everyone who’s offered help so far. If anyone else has any advice, I’d love to hear it. Also, I did forget to mention in my original post that I am a AAA member. I know some hotels offer a discount for AAA. Do any of Disney’s Good Neighbor hotels offer a discount?

I haven't stayed at the Best Western Park Place Inn, but I have stayed at the Best Western Anaheim Inn (which is almost as close to the gate). Even though BWPPI is recommended as the one to go to if you want to make the most of your in-park time, I had an easier time getting decent room prices at BWAI than BWPPI. If you have AAA or a Costco membership, you can get a clean room with fairly comfortable beds for a better price than the Howard Johnson Entertainment book rate (which is what you often hear people singing the praises of on here, and where we prefer to stay if our entire family goes).

Also, will you have a car with you? BWPPI has a "no car discount" rate! We were very strongly considering it for our January trip, but they were out of the rooms we wanted for the dates that we'll be there. If we had been able to use it, that would have made it significantly cheaper than BWAI.

The beds are comfortable and clean, and we slept well. That's the important part, right?
