Please help! Furniture Delivery-how much to tip?

The delivery service is unloading my order now...it includes a bed and its assembly...do I tip and if so how much...there's also another piece that's part of the order that they are delivering.

Please help!

When the couch was delivered I tipped $10 per person. It was stifling hot and they had to put it together. Hope this helps.

I do not think that you have to tip. I have never tipped for a delivery that I have paid for. Although, I do not know if I am wrong for not tipping???

I have never tipped..........but posed this same question here several months ago, because the deliverymen had a "tip bucket".
Overwhelmingly, the response was that people did NOT tip.

Thank you! I guess that's two votes for NOT tipping...and one vote for tipping under certain circumstances...I feel like I'm in a Seinfeld episode!

I tip based on the service. Were they on time? Were the delivery men friendly? Did they set it up right? Did they take care around the rest of the furniture? Was the furniture in one piece (not broken)? If there was something to test, did they test it? What were the weather conditions? How big of a piece of furniture was it? Was the number of people right for the job? (ie: it doesn't take 4 men to deliver a lamp)

Then I tip between $2 and $20/person. The $20 went to the movers who moved our furniture from the apartment to the house, reassembled a couple of desks, were very friendly/courteous, very patient with rearranging where things went, had to deliver in the rain and still got things here and didn't damage anything... those guys were the only ones I've ever tipped $20, but they earned every penny. Usually, I end up tipping about $5/person. I've only *not* tipped a couple of times.

I have never heard of tipping furniture deliverymen, but then, I had never heard of tipping Hotel Housekeepers until I came to the DIS - now I tip them all the time.

My BIL delivers furniture for a living. He gets tips from about 1/2 of his customers(maybe a little less). He usually gets between $10-$20. There are usually 2 guys working and they split the tips. It is definately not necessary but if they provide good service then it is nice.

We have always tipped furniture delivery people, as long as they were on time and respectful of our home and the existing furniture and did some assembly / setup. We usually tip $5 - $10 per person, depending on how big the job is.

I also base my decision on whether to tip by the job done. If something is just being dropped off then no. However, if something is being carried upstairs and put together than maybe. It really boils down to the quality of the job. Do they take care not to knock into things or ding a wall, do they stop to wipe their feet, any they polite and accomodating etc. If so then I'll give each guy a few bucks.

When I paid $10,000 to move from CA to MI, I did not tip but I bought the guys lunch (A&W Burgers.)

When I ordered furniture & paid $50 to have it delivered, I did not tip.

But when it's been really hot, I've offered them lemonade, iced tea, etc....EVERYTIME I have done that, the delivery men have accepted!
