Please Help!! - Expired FL DL

:lmao: Only on the DIS boards...... popcorn::

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
I know, right, wow...I could EASILY forget to do this, very easily. The only reason I didn't forget this year was because I was changing my last name back to my maiden name and she told me it would expire in Sept. so I could just renew. Now it's good for 6 years...chances are, I'll never remember when the time comes. Lol

OP, good luck to your brother...I hope it doesn't cause him any troubles!!

too busy?!?! they give you your renewal notice months in advance?! My son's will expire in Sept. We got his renewal notice the beginning of June! Sorry, but something doesn't sound right. You mean to tell me he has been busy that long to the point of letting it expire. I hope he knows he now will have to pay extra to renew it.To answer your question, I do believe it must be a current DL, not expired. Expired can mean that the person is no longer in the State.

Um..not ALL states send out renewal notices - Our state does not.

I never forgot to renew until they sent me the "Renew Online" thing the second time. I put it away...and forgot to do it. Remembered on my Birthday Eve, lol.

It happens, people.

Sometimes, people forget stuff. If you've never forgotten anything, that is amazing and great. But it happens to other people from time to time. I suppose it may technically be illegal, but...

It isn't like they're hardened criminals.

Goodness. Guys, it's not so easy as "pull over and go to the DMV", and one can easily forget it with the new RealID. In order to renew, he needs his birth certificate or passport, SS card, and two proofs of address. I know I don't carry those things around with me. You also have to physically go to the DMV. It's very easy to get caught up and forget to make that appointment.

If he has his car, I assume he also has his registration. That and his expired license (still a picture ID) should be fine according to the website quotes before. He may want to stop and print a utility bill just in case to have two proofs of address.

Before going to Disney your brother needs to get a valid driver's license.

Is he driving or will he need to drive in an emergency?

He does not need all of that. He can renew his eXpired license online and print the renewal. He could stop at kinkos or anyplace and do this. The expired license and his printed renewal should be sufficient for getting his pass. It is accepted by law enforcement, so it should be accepted by Disney. The stop at Kinkos may be a few minute hassle, but will resolve everything easily.

Yes, he does need all of that if he already used his one renewal, as the OP stated he did. If he could, it wouldn't be an issue. It is a new law in Florida as of Jan 2010.

Edited out a response that's already been handled. : )

It might be a good idea to go to the more official site: http://www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/renewing.html

The other site being given, if you look at the bottom, says "DMVFlorida.org is an independent organization not affiliated with the state of Florida , the Florida DMV, the Department of Motor Vehicles, or DHSMV ". And two spelling errors seen while quickly skimming one *page* of it doesn't make me 100% sure of it, LOL.

I would recommend stopping at the nearest DL office, but there's one thing that would stop me...

All customers must present:

Proof of Identification
Proof of social security number
Proof of residential address

I don't carry my SS card around with me.

Really people. She just asked a question. Answer it if you know the answer, but don't start bashing people about forgetting to renew. I have known people that have forgotten for almost a year, and they are not in jail. If they are pulled over and do not have a current license, they may get a ticket, or a warning to go renew it. Not everyone in this world is perfect, we all forget sometimes.

and the answer was given, it must be a valid DL, not an expired one. The answer is right on the official Disney web site for anyone to read. The question didn't even have to be posted here. :goodvibes

Also with our new State law, you are allowed to renew on line just once, as his renewal is up now, he could not have used that one renewal up. That new law just took effect in 2010. In the state of Fl DL's were good for 8 years and are still renewing for 8 years. I could be wrong, but I want to say, he can renew online again due to the new laws.

Aren't there a lot of questions posted here that don't need to be asked here? Isn't it possible that someone else experienced something similar and could give some insight that would be helpful? Like "That happened to me once and they let me show my registration and a bill as evidence," or something like that? That would not be on the Disney website.

umm his State does, he lives in FL! I live in FL and I know when they mail them out. uhmmmmm Read where he was coming from.. Tally, that is FL. :confused3 And if he needed proof of Residence, he must be a FL resident correct? :confused3 I am only talking about FL DL's being mailed out for renewal notices, not other states, so before rolling your eyes at me, try rolling them over my post and you could see what I/we are talking about :goodvibes

an expired DL isnt a big deal if you get pulled over, the cop will give you a warning and tell you to take care of it.. its only a big deal if you have a suspended one
you are correct in one aspect, which that would depend on the officer. The officer also has the option to give you a ticket that carries two points on the DL... it is their discretion.
it can go either way, and either way you look at it, it is illegal. It may be a minor offence, but still not legal.

I had renewed my licence and left the new one at home and only had my old expired licence on me.....

Disney let me pick up my Annual Passes with an expired licence checked into my resort with an expired licence and even had them reprint an annual pass with an expired licence...

What I am saying is 90% of the CMs will not even check to see if it is expired....

You were lucky you didn't get the 10% that do, that could have been a bit unpleasant if you did.

Maybe, but from what I can tell they just make sure the address is valid and your face matches the picture...

Thought I would give her a first hand account of having an expired licence at Disney instead of being judgmental like some...

OP, I'm the one who suggested you post this question over here. Anyways, I wasn't sure if you read this reply/quote on the other thread.

Hubby Had this problem a few years back. at the DTD counter they would not allow the use of the expired licence, but at a ticket window with a recent utility bill and id and MY current licence and a few other things they allowed it.

I forgot to renew mine, and this was the PROBLEM! I mean, if it expires in September, I'm not going in June. That's 3 months ahead of time. 4-6 weeks would be much more helpful. I got mine and put it aside, then forgot. I figured it out a week after it expired and got it done that day.
