Ive just realised my digital camera battery charger is only 220-240v. Does this mean I cant charge my battery via the usual travel adapter becos of the lower voltage in USA?

Is there anything I can buy cos im going in 2 days !!

HELP !!!

AFAIK you can but it will take a long time to charge

Why not get one out there for your camera?

Hi

As said above it will take a little bit longer, we found this out when we charged our batteries.

Buy another battery and charge it before you go, you will be asked at the airport to show your camcorder camera and mobile 'phone working so it's good to take a spare battery or a charger for each item. You will have to do the same coming back too so make sure everything is charged up in advance!! We even had to do this at Kennedy Space Centre before admission so be forewarned , have lots of fun on your travels and tell the Disers about it some time.

It will just be slower, just charge it overnight and it will be ready to go in the morning.

Unfortunately my battery is not the AA type - its a cell battery similar to a mobile phone. I know im gonna need to charge the battery cos my camera has a movie facility so it wont last that long - does anyone know if this type will charge ?? Im getting desperate !!!!!!!!! :confused3

what make is the camera?

I have a Fuji Finepix M603 which recharges in the cradle via the usb port in the base of the camera

In that case, it will be easy to buy a US charger and extra batteroies for the camera fom places such as Best buy, etc..
have a look on Fujis US web site and there will be a list of stores around Orlando

A lot of electrical equipment can just be used in the US, and like others have stated, they can take twice as long to charge. However, the product should really be designed to accomodate the differing voltage though, as ohms law tells you immetiately that by halving the supply voltage, you have to double the current flow, so wether it is ok to use a product depends partly on how its components cope with the extra current. What you tend to find is that its only the more AC based products such as heating and motors that are Ok to run (ie hairdryers etc), and the more complex electronics with more DC circuitry in them arent going to like it atall (unless they are designed to do so), as its likely their supply rail wont even reach the required voltage.

Speaking as a qualified electronics engineer, If a product did not specificaly state it is designed for 110V, then I wouldnt be trying it.

If you are concerned, just get yourself one of these : http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=24488&doy=25m8D

Hi

We have the fuji F410 that charges with the cradle. We bought another battery before we went and just had it on charge over night. Worked ok.

Hi

I have a Fuji 6800z which I have taken to Florida over the past 4 years. It plugs into cradle. I only plug it into a US Adapter. Charges up no problem overnight.

Really? Blimey i never had to do that before - that reminsd me to put batteries on my shopping list!

Although - make sure you log on to Walmart and see if they're cheaper to buy over there. i bought my camera a the Fl Mall last trip and got a set of batteries and a us charger for a tenner. My dad's already taken the charger to canada and I'll be sticking it back in my case this trip so I've already had my monies worth.

You can buy international ones here but they're probably much mroe expensive and if you have a UK one already what's the point...?

:listen: Since we first went to Florida the security has become alot more strict on electrical goods in hand luggage. They now ask you to turn on 'phones cameras and camcorders to prove they work and are not potential explosive devices!Remember to turn all equipment off before boarding the plane. This is for everyones safety so please make sure everything is charged up before going through the airports or they can confiscate it people!!Just a heads up ,not meaning to alarm anyone. :wave2: Wifey

We had this problem with our cameras. We bought a voltage converter and they now all charge at the normal rate. We bought ours a small electronics shop in Belz, it was about $10. It works great for any electrical item!
