The best deal I can find for our air travel this year is with AmericaWest. I have never flown with them before so I was hoping for some feedback. I have flown with American quite a bit, and I like them. Unfortunately, the best qoutes I can get are several hundred dollars higher this year vs. last.

Should I wait a while before buying tickets, in the hopes of lower fares? The best I can find so far is $1,656.00 round trip for 4, from Fresno, CA to Orlando.

Any feedback is appreciated!

I flew America West in March 2002 from BWI to Long Beach, CA. I had never flown America West before this trip. I must say that I loved America West. Our flights were on-time, the staff was great and the planes were very clean. I believe I flew Airbus Ind. Planes to Phoneix and the Boeings from Phoneix to LGB. If I was going out west again I would choose America West.

Also, what made our trip even better, was that we chose to bump ourselves from a flight and got a $400.00 voucher for doing so.

Hope this helps.

Hi !!

My parents flew with AmericaWest from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, and according to them, it was not a great tour!

They were late, they didn't serve food, and the seat my mother was supose to sit in was " non-existent"

I can send you the letter she wrote to AM, if you want it!

Best regards

Hey,
Try Travelocity.com!!! I just looked up a flight from Fresno to Orlando - (not knowing your flight dates) and found fares of $356 per person on 4 other major carriers. United/American/Delta/Northwest. ($1424 total)

I used Travelocity to book my Continental airfare back in January from SNA to MCO. ($238 with one stop in houston for half an hour). The check in was easy and fast, there were no problems. The luggage arrived when we did, and we had a perfect trip! Even racked up Continental Frequent miles for my fare, which cost half the advertised rate for the same flight on continental.com. It was great, so look into it!

Also, I don't think you would want to make the 3 hour drive from Fresno, but if you fly out of SNA (John Wayne Airport in Orange County) You could save about $70 per person. Right now they have fares at $286 on American/Continental/United/Northwest/America West/Delta/US Airways.

Check it out, and give me an update on your final fare, or if you find anything better, as we are going on December 13, 2002, and are checking out So.Cal to MCO fares.

Enjoy your trip.
All my best

I've flown on America West (HP) quite a bit and found them to be just a cut below the major carriers in quality. They definitely cut corners on food and have had some customer service issues of late due to labor disputes.

That said, I had no qualms about taking advantage of their lower fares.

I used to fly America West into Phoenix and that airline was always a good bet for a free ticket compensation when they overbooked! (I volunteered to be bumped so that some other hapless passenger would not lose their seat.)

Also, it has been nicknamed "American Worst" by some people. Of course, there are varying experiences on every airline, but I did think their seats were the smallest and most uncomfortable of any airline, save Delta Comair.

The company appears to be making a turnaround.Massive cancellations, delays are old news.

Flights into MCO from LAS,CMH,PHX are on Airbus A319,A320 Aircraft.
Why do people complain about no food service when tickets in a lot of markets are the cheapest in years? You would not believe how much the food service companies charge for a product resembling food.If given a choice would you want a lower fare or a food substance?

Well, for the most part, the airlines have cut back their food service offerings for given flight lengths and times. As part of any cut in service one would expect people to complain.

Also, I think the food on airplanes really isn't that bad. Admittedly, I'm not picky (I often buy from street vendors in NYC and I ate at the company cafeteria for years without complaint), but neither am I totally without taste.

I've only really complained once about lack of food - 8pm flight out of EWR to LAS - arrives 5 hours later at 10pm. Since I'm rushing to get out of the city to the airport, I don't get a chance to pick up dinner - besides, I'm hoping to be upgraded to first and get a real meal. Instead, I end up in coach expecting my usual half a cold sandwich, chips, and an apple. To my dismay, I have to make do with salted peanuts and a coke. I arrive starving (but ready for the buffet).

I think a lot of people plan to eat airline food because the meal service helps to pass the time.

Flew america west from Phila to LA and had no problems at all. No one serves food anymore (unless you are in first class), except for the occasional bistro bag if you are lucky. So lack of food wouldn't stop me from using an airline. (pack your own sandwich--will tastes better anyway!) Their safety record is my main concern and AW has been fine as far as I've heard. The fare you were quoted though seems very high and I would keep checking and wait it out.
