Please explain walking like I am 5 years old

They can book 11/30 and book all the way and also take 12/04 because currently the days I hold are still available for others to book. (Thats assuming there's only one room left on 12/04). I think I will be fine but I just didnt realize there was this pause at the 1st of the month.
No they can’t. That’s the cool part. They can book Nov 30 onward today just like they could book Nov 30 onward yesterday. You have the room. They can’t get the 12/04 until 01/04

3 but Im booking 4 because of flights, I may be able to get a cheaper flight on a Thursday.

This is how I understand it-

I think you’ll be ok. Tomorrow you’ll be able to add 2 days at once.

Nobody can really walk over you because that would require them to also have 11+month access, which means they already have their own lane of inventory in which nobody else can take. So they don’t need to cross into your lane (ie - the system already has a lane for them).

The only time the lanes need to ‘shift’ is when inventory is removed further out than 11m for things other than normal reservations, like FW or maintenance/refurb or the rare glitch.

(All of this is assuming you continue to at least keep holding one day beyond the 11 month window and don’t ‘break’ your walk.)

Somebody had a math model that showed how it worked one time. Wish I could find it!

There isn’t necessarily an advantage holding a 7 day walk than a 4 day walk. The longer reservation may get an advantage only if/when inventory is removed via something other than normal bookings. Then whoever shows up last will be out.

If not right, somebody please correct. After reading many walking discussions over the years this principle seemed consistent.

Like someone else said, we've been members for over 20 years, and never even heard of walking until a few years ago. And I finally broke down and walked a reservation for the first time this year. However I only walked it a few days before I needed it. I never knew people walked reservations a whole month beforehand until I read it here today. You learn all kinds of things on the DIS Boards!

You are going great. This is why those poor unfortunate souls with a DEC UY…hate this part of the booking period.

Lol. Our first ever contract I looked for either Aug/Sept/Oct. We’re least likely to travel in summer.

Ended up with Sept. I’ve learned to appreciate the ‘flying leap’ I can take for December Season 3 😅 Trying to cross UY is possible from what I hear, but no thank you on that! Setting it up would drive me crazy.

Yep, Dec UY here and it's a pain for sure. Possible, but incredibly annoying. Here I am with a reservation that crosses UY currently. You need points in both 2025 and 2026, and at least two calls to Member Services. 1767207306213.png

Could you imagine trying to do that with a walk Dec targeting Dec 14-21, where the member started it in Oct?

People have shared doing it, but it gets seriously complicated for the point deprived lol. Like me! I’m in state of borrowing already.

Yeah... I can imagine it 😄

Ok -will I be good to walk a 4 night reservation every two days? And not have to be on at 8 am?

I’ve been overthinking 😵‍💫

As long as you move the reservation prior to the check out day you are fine. So, if your reservation is currently Nov 30- Dec 3, then move it on Dec 2, any time of day.
