My Mom and I are going down (alone) in Sept to check out DVC. We would be looking for extended family vacations every 2-3 years. For example, let say we buy this year with an Oct UY, can we schedule a 2009 Fall trip by banking our 2008 points, using our 2009 points and borrowing from our 2010 points? When would we be allowed to schedule?

The "Use Year" refers to the 12 month period starting on the first day of the "Use Year" you own. If you own a Oct. UY, DVC will put your allotted points into your account on Oct. 1st of each year. If you need to vacation in the same month every year, you should purchase an ownership where the use month precedes the vacation time by no more than 8 months, (gives time to bank points if you cancel your vacation). If you are flexible with your vacationing, "Use Year" becomes much less important.

What you want to do with your "fall 2009" trip is feasible. As long as your trip commences after your 2009 UY starts (IE: Oct. 1st or later). You would be able to book this trip at the 11-month window for your home resort (11 months in advance of your trip).

Hope that helps!

As long as the "fall 2009" trip is after 9/30/09, then you can bank and borrow and use 3 years worth of points.

You would get your 2008 points on 10/1/08 and you have until next May to bank them into 2009 (10/1/09). If you are staying at your home resort, then you could make a reservation 11 months prior to your fall 2009 vacation and have the agent bank your 2008 points, use your 2009 points and borrow your 2010 points all at the same time.

So, if you purchased 200 points when you visit WDW this fall, then you could book a vacation in the fall of 2009 and use up to 600 points for that vacation...of course, this means that you will not have any points currently available until 10/1/11.
