We our DVC newbies as in we have not closed yet. I am beyond excited that we were able to purchase pts on our last DVC vacation!!!!! We got this year pts as an incenstive and we have an April UY. We are planning a Dec 2012 trip and we are shy by just a few for the amount of pts we will need for where we are trying to stay. My sister also owns DVC and I know will have more than enough plus some to do the 2 trips she has planned and one for my parents to still transfer some pts... but being so new I have no idea how/what this works. PLEASE PLEASE explain it to me... it is such a small amount of pts I would prefer not to borrow them from the year ahead esp since my sister has come close twice to losing her pts. TIA I really apperiate any help/info you would like to give me. To me more information is always better.

Welcome. First of all you were not given an incentive of a years worth of points, you were given this years points. This is a common Disney sales tactic and you are not alone.

To transfer points you both need to call MS and tell them that you want to transfer. They take the points from one account and put them in another. Transfered points retain their home resort status and UY.

I thought that was what I said, sorry didn't mean to confuse.

Ok how would that work then we were booking at our HOME resort so we were going to do it in Jan 2012 but her resort is different from ours and her UY is Sept.

Would it be better for us to just borrow from the year ahead then???

easier to borrow from your next UY, yes. your sister's pts cannot be used at your home resort at 11 months out no matter what you do.

If you were booking @ 7 months out, you could also purchase up to 24 points directly from Disney @ $15 each. I know that doesn't apply in your situation, but for future reference. I just had to buy 1 point to complete a reservation for next Easter.

You are only allowed one transfer per UY. That means that if your sister transferred you 2012 points, neither one of you would be able to do another transfer for 2012 points. And remember, it's one transer (in or out) per UY, NOT calendar year.

Like someone else said and especially if it's a smaller number of points - borrow from 2013. Then in 2013 if you are short then get a transfer from either your sister or another owner.

While some people may not transfer any points in a given UY, that one transfer is quite valuable (if needed) and I personally wouldn't transfer unless I had no points available to borrow from a future year.

Good luck,

Chris

This is only partially correct. You may only transfer OUT one time per UY. You may accept transfer INs multiple times per UY.

Another common transfer issue:
You may bank transferred-in points, if those points weren't already banked by the original owner. If the CM tells you differently and seems stubborn, hang up and call again. I believe it causes them to do some manual manipulation to their computer systems. So some of them honestly do not understand or are not capable of doing it.

Not correct, the following is from the DVC Home Resort Rules and Regulations document:

"During a given Use Year, only one (1) Transfer per Club Member or Club membership, either as Transferee or Transferor, will be permitted."

Hmmm, well if that's what it says... I guess I pulled a fast one on Mickey not too long ago. :woohoo:

I didn't think you could transfer points from an owner if the owner had already banked or borrowed those points.

you are correct.

you may bank pts that have been transferred in. you may not transfer in banked or borrowed pts.
