I was just checking rates on National, and I noticed something that has me baffled. They quoted me $289 for a week (w/o taxes) and then charged me only $16 a day for the extra 4 days. Well, when you figure it out...the 7 days (week rate) is running me about $41.29/day, then only $16 a day after??? Is that right? All my other ressies the week rate is LOWER than the day to day rate. If they can give me the $16 for the days above a week, why can't they do it for the whole week?!?

Just curious what everything thinks of this...

Car rental rates change daily. It's possible that demand is higher the first week you're renting and then decreases, therefore you get the lower rate for the remainder of your rental.

What are your dates?

Thanks for responding! My dates are 10/16-10/26. I tried doing a 6/5 day split when I noticed the low rate and it was something like $40 a day. It's so strange the way these rental companies price stuff...

:thanks:

I've seen really different daily rates for different codes, too (which really doesn't explain WHY, just that I've seen this). But, usually the daily rate IS more than the weekly rate divided by 7. Just one more reason to try every code you can find.

I know I just checked for the week before X-mas 5 days and couldn't even find a compact for under $250 .I hope some more codes come out but WOW it's crazy to charge that much.

Thrifty has a midsize for your dates for $253 total with taxes. Not sure what size you were looking for, but seems like the best deal for now... you can always rebook later if prices go down.

Thank you! :thanks:

I actually hold a ressie with them for an SUV...I'm just playing the waiting game for some of these companies to offer great rates for my travel days...

Thanks for checking though!
