Please explain something to me

NJ Resident here. Went today to a nearby Boscov's ( PA/NJ department store). They still had signs up requiring masks. We plan on having one with us since the State has said individual business can set their own rules when it comes to masks.
In NJ here too. I will keep a disposable in my purse for a while and read the sign on the way into a store, etc. I think this NJ state wide, 14 month long mandate is going to take a while to walk-back in the minds of people, both business owners and patrons alike. I 'd rather *not* wear one, but don't care if I am required. I'm so used to wearing one now. It's fine as long as the place has a/c. Now if a private place required masks and had no a/c, I'd pass on that during the summer, for sure.
ETA: fully vaxed, entire family.

We kept some in both cars in case we forgot. Plan in keeping them handy. We are the same as you, rather not but will respect a business that wants us to wear them.
Also full vaxed as are most of our families & friends

Finally freedom. New Jersey governor has finally done the right thing for manufacturing plants. No longer required to wear masks. Started on June 4

I went to the supermarket yesterday with a mask in my purse in case I chickened out, but since this supermarket (in NJ) was no longer requiring masks for the vaccinated...although they weren't checking anyone...I went and did my shopping without it. Most people were wearing masks, although more than a few were not. I felt like I had gone out without my bra on, but I stuck it out. I got one stink eye from an older lady, which was hilarious since she was wearing her mask below her nose, therefore negating it's function. Everyone else was chill about it. When I got to the checkout, I asked the masked cashier if she would feel more comfortable if I put my mask on and she said no, it was fine.

I still kept my distance as much as I could, though.
