My state New Jersey is going to lift some mask mandates tomorrow including social distance. I’m all for of getting rid of masks. But how come it is safe to do so in a casino, grocery store, church etc. in manufacturing what I do the governor said it’s not safe to get rid of the masks unless the manufacturing place has public access. Meaning tours or other things that allows the public to come in to the manufacturing place. My place of employment does not have public access. I just don’t get it. Maybe I’m stupid or something I just don’t get it. Please explain it to me like I’m a three year old.

I don't live in NJ, but just read the press release from the governor's office about the mask mandate. I don't take it to mean it's not safe to get ride of them in place without public access. It says that "previous governing rules apply", which makes me think there was already a lifting of the mandate in controlled settings - but that being said, any business has the right to continue to require their employees to wear them.

I dont know what you are saying? Does your place of business still require you to wear masks?

I’m curious to see how the stores are going to deal with this. I’m hoping they no longer require masks but I guess it’s a wait and see at this point.

I live in Florida. Except for a few municipalities we've been maskless forever. Individual businesses can require masks but most are also dropping it now. I only say this because I have no idea what arbitrary rules other states go by and why.

I live in Texas and the mask mandate went away in March. But since the cdc recommendation came out, most businesses are mask optional for customers and required for employees.

Louisiana here. Walmart and Sam's club have signs posted that their vaccinated employees are not required to wear masks. It also has masks are encouraged for those who are not vaccinated (customers). I am vaccinated but I still wore it @ Sam's Club-I didn't want to deal with the dirty looks. I did not wear it at the HomeGoods store. I also have my "proof" on my phone.

Our state mask mandate has been lifted for months. A lot of retail type businesses still had them for about a month after but they didn't enforce them. I work part time in a retail store and we had the 'masks required' sign up but if someone came in without one and didn't appear to be sick (looking like they were running fever, coughing, etc) they were left alone. We don't have the masks required sign up anymore but employees still have to wear them. DH also works in retail. Where he works it's not required and they just went to optional for employees too. For employees I believe it's supposed to be 'if you are vaccinated'.

Just a WAG, but you'll generally spend more time at your place of employment than you do at the grocery, casino, church, etc. Since, as I understand it, whether you catch Covid not only has to do with being exposed, but the amount of time you're exposed. Walking by an infected person in a grocery store, not much chance of coming down with it. Working next to an infected person for eight hours a day means much more of a chance.

I could be way off base.

NJ here - my daughter's dance studio is lifting them only for vaxxed - and you have to submit your vax card as proof. I think this is coming for schools in the fall, too, as well as other places.

South Carolina?

Businesses can set their own rules. They can require masks forever if they want. They can require employees wear clown wigs and Hammer pants. At my PT job employees are required to wear them. Customers are not.

its not our employer it’s the state. My employer is ready for us to get rid of the masks if we want they just have to wait for the state.

There's a really easy and obvious answer for this. Manufacturing plants and warehouses were some of the places that had the worst infection rates in 2020 due to no masking and large groups of people working closely together around the clock. Not only did tons of people get sick, so many supply chains were disrupted. Businesses can't afford for this to happen again so masks stay on until the appropriate percentage of people are vaccinated or the pandemic is otherwise declared over.

Yeah in my state meatpacking plants and other warehouse style places (like Amazon) were hit very hard. Lack of social distancing being a big reason it spread easily. And for meatpacking they rarely if ever closed down due to outbreaks, they were expected to keep going.

I sure hope it has changed in 2 months but one of the DISers I know she said out of her 200 person manufacturing plant only half expressed interest in getting the vaccine.

NJ Resident here. Went today to a nearby Boscov's ( PA/NJ department store). They still had signs up requiring masks. We plan on having one with us since the State has said individual business can set their own rules when it comes to masks.

I like Boscov’s but I will not support a business that requires mask when they don’t have to. Except for Disney.
