Please explain room only discounts

Hi, planning a trip for next August. I've seen all the historical info about room only promos in the summer, ranging from 5-35% off, depending on resort level. Ive also tracked the free dining promo data & don't think it will align w/our stay. My question is, does Disney give everyone the discount for the room (ex: wilderness lodge 25% off) or do they only have a couple rooms available at each resort that qualify? I've ran a quote that we can live with, but I was wondering if a promo would come around that we can get.

When making a room only reservation, I usually tell the CM, "I would like the so and so discount." With each discount, availability is limited based on resort and room category. Disney offers discounts to fill unsold rooms. Discounts for August are usually released in the Spring. Over the past few years, my family has gone in August and I've always had some type of discount.

Since Disney releases discounts to fill rooms, there is usually limited availability under discounts. If a discount does come out for your dates, you can call and have it applied to your existing reservation as long as what you have booked is available under the discount. Sometimes you have to be flexible with your resort and/or room type as not all resorts and room types are offered with a discount and having a reservation in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied. With that said, sometimes different room categories (at the same resort) are offered at a discount amount (i.e., a WL standard room might be offered at 30% discount, but a courtyard view or CL room might only be 20%).
