Please explain Character Breakfast's?

Hi All,
I have been reading non-stop...I feel like such a novice
Could someone please explain what these are and why they are so popular? I have 2 boys (age 6 and 2 1/2 ) who we will be taking in July for 3 days. Thanks!

Character breakfast (or lunches and dinners) are meals where characters roam around the restaurant and interact with the guests (take pictures, sign autographs, etc...). Most character meals are buffets (all you can eat) while others (Ariel's Grotto) have a menu you order off of. Storytellers offers both choices for breakfast. They're popular because they're guaranteed character interaction.

sacha, we eat at beach club(cape may) breakfast at least twice each trip and love it.

In Jan. we ate at the O'Hana Character breakfast (a GREAT way for us to start our WDW experience). Mickey, Lilo, Stitch and Pluto were there. On Sunday, before our Cruise, we ate at Donald's breakfastasaurus in the AK. Mickey, in a camp shirt, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto were there. The characters stay at each table with plenty of time for pictures. Very special!

Character meals are popular because you don't have to deal with long lines to get hugs and autographs from the characters. At the meals, they come around to each table, no need to hunt them down and no need to stand in line. You can see more characters at a meal than in a whole day in the park (unless you go in a really slow season).

For us, our character brunch is a nice break to the day. We hit the parks at opening then hit many of the rides. Around 10:30 or 11, we're ready for a break so we head to Goofy's Kitchen.

No Problem! We've been to dozens of them and there's nothing too it.
Most carachter breakfast have to be reserved ahead of time so be sure to check up on the ones you like and find out who they will be. Usually you go into the eating facility where it seems that most breakfasts are buffet style and get your food. When you are seated, several carachters(sp) will come around to your table and interact with your children and you! some of them are more active then others and they can be very cute and funny! you can take pictures with them and your family...they will pose with whomever you want. Even though my kids are now teenagers they still have fun posing with them and getting pictures taken. If you decide to do one, go with an open mind and have a great time!

Wow! Thanks for all the reply's guys! This is really a nice board. Do any of you have suggestions for introducing a 2 year old to the characters? I know Erik will be fine but I am concerned they might scare Luke a little. TIA!

The key for my dd was to have an autograph book so she had a purpose in dealing with the characters, the first day or two she would not hug them and stood several feet away for pic's. Now she can't wait to see the characters now she will hug them and stand next to them.

Your boys are going to have soo much fun! I think character meals are awesome for kids as it allows them to interact with the characters in a normal setting instead of standing in long lines to meet them at the park where everything feels so rushed. At Goofy's Kitchen, our favorite spot in DL, I have noticed the characters are very good around the 2 year old set ( I just took a 2 yr old dd). They approach slowly and sort of gage the child's reaction before coming on too strong.

My 2 yr old LOVED the characters this trip but she was afraid of certain ones when she was one so it can really depend. Autograph books are available everywhere at the parks! The ones without a place to hold pictures are $6 or $7 bucks. You will not have trouble finding them at all! Lots of people also bring their own and I have had a lot of luck finding disney type pens for the autograph books at our local dollar stores here.

If you're artistic at all it's fun to make your own autograph book! you can go to Walmart and get the supplies...even use scrapbooking stuff! they have some really cute Disney ones! If not, you can buy autograph books pretty much anywhere in the park..any of the shops or the little kiosks pretty much have them! Just remember to get a large pen so they can handle them without a problem.
When the carachters (sp)show up to your table, they are very gentle. They try really hard not to scare the little ones! mine would not go anywhere near them when we first went but soon warmed up with some help from mom and dad.

I just wanted to thank everyone so much for being so helpful!! I think there will be a character breakfast in our future I am paying the trip/hotel/car off right now and I think when I get through that I will add a character meal as well....How far in advance do I need to book these?

This is very true.

Even though our DS2 had launched himself into Goofy's arms near the Neverland Pool, and had already visited with a princess or two, he got a little nervous with Minnie. When she approached and touched his shoulder, he pulled away slightly.

So without paying any attention to him, she sat down next to him and started fiddling with his sunglasses on the table. He was fascinated! Then she put them on herself, and he laughed out loud! She startled and 'noticed' him, and giggled. Then she took the sunglasses off and put them on him, and he gave her the biggest, cheesiest grin. From that moment on, they were fast friends!
