Toss your cigarette butts from car windows while visiting in Florida.

Today, I was on WDW property. Twice I saw people toss cigarette butts from car windows. While I think it is a disgusting thing to do, normally it would not upset me. However, there are currently large brush fires burning in Florida. True, they are near the east coast area, but all of Florida is so dry. We've been under red flag (fire) warnings for weeks. Your tossed cigarette butt could take out someones home or even part of WDW.

Currently, fires have I95 closed again. It has been closed many times recently due to brush fires. They just said that someones home has burned in the New Symerna Beach area and others are in danger of burning. We need rain so badly.

Please be careful not to do anything that could start a brush fire.

Thanks for the heads up Feralpeg. I see this all the time out here in Colorado, even when the fire danger is extremely high.

The World is not your ashtray; keep your butts in your car!!! This is a pet peeve of of mine! :sad2:

:thumbsup2 I totally agree with you. Sometimes I would like to get out and put the butt back through the window.
Please be careful everyone!

My thoughts exactly. It infuriates me to see people tossing things out the window. Especially burning cigarettes and especially in droughts.

Thank you for bringing this up Feralpeg. I live close to where the fire is burning in New Smyrna Beach. We've seen the smoke all afternoon. The situation is very serious. Hopefully we won't have a repeat of the fires of '98. Everyone needs to be aware of the potential dangers. Let's just hope we get a significant rainfall soon. :firefight

ITA. Nothing like having the jerk in front of you throw their butt out the window and have it fly up under your car - then your whole car interior starts to smell like an ashtray. I don't think these boneheads realize that either.

I have been watching all evening as they are breaking into the network shows. So sad that folks are losing their homes!

Hopefully some of the rain they are showing in the forecast will help, we need a week of rain!

When I look out the window on my second floor of my house, I can see those New Smyrna fires across the horizon burning and glowing red right now - :guilty: They have evacuated 800+ people from the Sugar Mill subdivision and have opened shelters, with a "pet-friendly" shelter opened at the county fairgrounds (Volusia). I-95 is closed in both directions right now at New Smyrna St Rt 44....

Also, just in case you are traveling on I 95 -last night there was a terrible accident on I-95 due to the smoke/fog with semis and cars crashing and then burning with two fatalities- there have been so many accidents in the early morning hours lately due to the smoke/fog that FHP (State Highway Patrol) has been closing I-95 and the Beachline periodically, but they said they couldn't get the highway closed fast enough last night to prevent this. So, tonight they will close it in the fire areas from 5AM - 9AM, just in case. As you can imagine, traffic is a disaster when they do this, so if you are traveling through these areas you might want to try an alternate route.

We've been glued to the local news all day also, but I just had my DH look out the window at the fire glow and he suggested that we gather up our important papers "just in case" Yikes!

bumping it up to spread the word! i so agree, and we have to make sure that disney is protected cause i'm moving there in less than a week and we need to keep it there!

Thanks, for the reminder. If you smoke, be responsible!

For those of you living close to the fire areas, my prayers go out to you. Please be safe!

I know this sound stupid, but we could use a tropical storm about now!

if they're smoking, they're not responsible to begin with :rotfl2:

Definitly a good thing to point out, thanks Peggy.

not to mention in the unlikely but possible event that someone has even the tiniest gas leak................................

Good point. :firefight

Im from BC, Canada, A man here was recently tried and convicted of starting a fire by throwing a cigarette out the window. The fire was massive and destroyed more than a few homes. Public opinion was split on whether or not he should be charged as he was extremely distraught over the harm he caused to his own community, but he was tried none the less.

we're using DME but i will make sure that my butts are completely out at the parks
