Please don't respond to trolls!

I know who the OP is referring to and I agree with the OP::yes::

You got it! I'm not referring to Charlie... but to an actual troll who has been banned once before and whose sole purpose in life is to create conflict on this board.

uh pugdog, not everyone who posts here is from America. That certainly doesn't make them a troll, just because they are from another country and don't necessarily believe America is the greatest country in the world.

I agree ::yes::

Brer_Papa, and Pugdog007 both, forgive me if I am wrong (often am) but I do not think the OP (Pugdog007) necessarily meant (though she did word it as such) that anti-American sentiments were wrong, but rather the constant barrage with such, and the wording of such sentiments so as to induce arguing and strife on the board, is oftentimes deemed, on Net BB's, as the activities of a troll. And the best method of dealing with a troll, in lieu of banning (I hope some day) is to ignore. We have seen several here in past years, and they have ultimarely been booted, and when so, things were more pleasant, less strife.

So, my take on the OP's statement, is more directed at the troll aspects of the troll/s, rather than (though again, she did state such) anti-American. That is, as I often say, JMO.

I think running an entire thread about trolls like this "feeds" them just as much as posting in response to them.

I agree. There have been other "don't feed the troll" threads over the past week.

Having unpopular opinions doesn't make one a troll.

I don't mind people posting contraversial opinions here. Its when they ONLY post the same opinions over and over, and they only want to post on that one topic that I start to think of the troll label. When someone only posts on one topic after their opinions on that topic are well known, and they never post on another topic, I am forced to beleive that either....

A) That person is obsessed.
B) That person is looking to stir up trouble.

Either way, I have recently chosen to ignore postings by such people, as their pattern of posts tell me their opinions are not worth my bothering with. I can talk with just about anyone, but someone who only posts on one topic over and over again stops being interesting real fast.

Hi Dan Murphy!

Thanks....I was having some difficulty comprehending exactly what was meant...

as I stated...I was a "tad bit confused"....(it's been known to happen)....

and between your reply...and a reply posted while i was typing...I think the intent was because of a previously banned poster reappearing....

between these 2 posts...I realize i was going in the wrong direction...i certainly mean nor meant any offense to anyone...

if you read what I wrote... you will see i thought it was a DB vs CB struggle ...

my sincere apologies for my misconception...

Thank you Dan for clarifying. Yes... exactly what Dan said... is what I meant.

People get upset and feel they have to respond to trolls... and therein creates the vicious cycle. If you ignore and NEVER respond... they will get bored and move on.

...unless you keep posting "don't feed the troll" threads ;)

You have a good point there, Bo, so Pug and I will not make anymore troll warning posts, for a time. :)

Exactly... what Hound said :)

Why don't we just ask and quit beating around the bush here? Then everyone can be clear on whether to respond or not.

Van Helsing, are you a troll? :p

standing ovation for DAMO!!! You go girl!!

I have been wondering who, what,... etc

I didn't click on the link, but I saw some nasty replies to the e-mail.

Hahahaha! Charlie's link was to a website for Corn Nuts - a snack food! It was not an anti-American site at all! :teeth: Some how his thread got way off base. LOL! Charlie is about as pro-American and patriotic as they come. :teeth:

Whooooooo boy, Charlie. It's gonna be a long time before you live this one down! LOL!

Oh, and I agree with Brer Papa's first post on this thread. :) ::yes::

It went off base because a lot of people thought his "joke" was in poor taste. :)

Some people might have thought his joke was in poor taste ... to each their own. The link in his thread was not a link to "a Taliban site" or "anti-American" as someone on this thread thought. :)

Glad to hear that Charlie isn't anti-American. (I have a secret crush on him.)

It isn't a secret anymore. I'm tellin charlie, of course, I could be bribed.

I like the Ignore feature here....................

I like the ignore feature too and I don't understand why more people don't use it. I believe that calling out a particular poster and going on and on about that person is against the rules too so ignoring him would probably be a better option.

I personally don't consider VH a troll at all. Maybe a bit obsessed but not a troll.
