In the interest of protecting the members of the DIS VMK community from internet fraud, the moderators and webmasters have decided that we will not allow discussion of copy cat VMK sites from unestablished companies.

All posts that contain links or discussion to copy cat VMK sites will be removed without warning. Please remember that restarting closed threads is against DIS guidelines, and will result in infractions.

If you try to discuss the sites indirectly, we will consider that as being sarcastic. For example, "the site we are not allowed to talk about."

Sorry but it would be wise to consider any such place a scam and we do not want our members referred and losing their identity because emotions are running high and your guard is down.

Thanks.

Thanks for looking out for us, Grandmaster A :)

I agree, a serious company would go through regular advertisement, not dicussion boards to get attention.

And they should have a clear background.

Hey All,

It's completely up to you if you want to participate on different sites. I have deleted the threads about a particular site because they are in violation of the DIS posting rules and 'they' have registered on the DIS just to promote their site.

I know everyone is sad that VMK is closing and the prospect of another site that could take its place is very appealing but please take your time, think about the information you are sharing and protect yourself.

We will continue to remove the posts about these sites until it can be proven they are valid AND until we decide which direction we are going to take with the VMK Boards.

For now, they remain VMK Boards with the same posting guidelines as in the past.

Thank you!

Thanks Aengus for looking out for all the disboard members, and like many others I hope things work out for the best, but the security of the disboard members should be #1. Thanks once again sir...

Thanks, Aengus. I almost fell for that. Luckily, I didn't pre-register. It looks like the information that you enter into the boxes on that particular site just goes on a form that goes straight to the site owner. So I'm glad I didn't put any info down, even if it doesn't include a password.

Ok, I understand not being able to post about copycat sites. I'm still wondering, though, what real damage could be done with just an e-mail address. Could someone please explain this to me? If there's a possible scam in the works, I'd really like to know how. :confused3

I'm not quite sure how it is done personally.
I do know that a long standing member of another fan site and long time member of VMK after signing up at that site has found her VMK account 'terminated' by VMK.
Coincidence? Possibly.
But one can never every be too careful.
