Please do not post copy cat VMK sites - First post Updated 5/1

I think it is a somewhat unfortunate decision, as I would like to know about other new game sites. What sort of shenanigans have been going on to lead the board to take this action?

I signed up with my email address and have no plans whatsoever to change anything anywhere. Everytime I enter my email address on the gazillion online sites that I do, I don't go running off to change my info... :confused3

My email address is public and has been for years. ANYBODY could find it, so I'm not worried one tiny bit.

I am signed into VMK right now just fine :)

Because we had to enter our email addresses to pre-register on this particular "copy cat" VMK site, and people are now all up in arms with worry over it...

I would have to agree. I have used the same email address for years. It's floating around all over the internet. I guess there is always a chance of catching a virus, but that's the nature of computers.:confused3 If people are worried about their virtual stuff, they should not be. Nowhere on that site did it ask for a password, last name, credit card, etc... If someone really wanted to send a virus to people, they could get a heck of a lot longer list elsewhere.

However, I can see why the moderators want to keep the discussion off the boards. More information about this place is definitely needed.

Threeboysmom, I am trying to send you a PM but your mailbox is full.

vmkfan13 has a great point: read the privacy policy of any site before you give out your information.

I had no intentions of giving my info. to any other sites, but I did look at the afforementioned place's privacy policy. It may or may not be a scam (who the heck knows, really), but that privacy policy had more holes in it than Swiss cheese! :sad2:

Our main concern at the moment is not that anyone tried to steal anyones password. I just think skepticism is warranted for a site to pop up, look like vmk, smell like vmk, but NOT be vmk. Lets see how Disney feels about their patents being clearly violated before we all jump on board ;)

Please all, keep in mind that it usually takes up to three years to develop and get MMOLRPG up and running. (MassiveMultiplayerOnlineRolePlayingGame)

This is what both VMK and the new <rname removed> are. Just an informational note.

I have a good friend on vmk who gave his info to this site and has not been able to log on to any disney sites all day. Coincidence? no idea..

It is sad though that in the end vmk has made their members so desperate that they are giving out personal information through game links and petitions. So much for their "keeping everyone safe."

It could very well be coincidence. Please do not spread rumors, we need to see facts. Thanks!
This has NOTHING to do with vmk. If people are giving personal info to anyone then they really deserve what they get. Sorry, but anyone with a pc and internet access should know by now that nothing is guaranteed safe. Always protect your personal info! always...

Hiya, Coriander! Yes, I was dumbstruck by the speed in which this MMORPG was started as well. Lots of programming needs to be done, for one. The image on this particular site's main page was definitely photoshopped from vmk's images, and the girl depicted was taken from another site. It looked to me as though a young teen may have created the site, not an adult who claims to be a programmer. Just my opinion, of course, but I do have some working knowledge of programming. ;) That's all I'll say about that!

We could share facts, but it is on another fan site. I am sure you like many of us are members of other sites, search and you will find it.

If you have some knowledge of programming then whois the site, you will be surprised what you find...or maybe not.

Sorry, it doesn't make sense that you're angry with me, I'm only stating my opinion. I am not the 'bad guy' here.
I saw the website, I've seen his info. That doesn't change my mind about the site being poorly done. I don't know his age, but I know the graphics are sub-par.
I have no need to search through anyone else's site. I do not know the person who claims not to be able to log on vmk. All I said was it could be coincidence, I do not have all the facts. There may be another reason this person is having trouble logging on vmk. I don't know. That is all I said.

I just figured I'd give this a bump for those who didn't see it last night.

The only thing they asked for was email address and user name you wanted. They asked no pass word or private info. I agree here with the mods.. Be cautious and watch and listen but dont panic and dont make rumers.

I will abide by the rules of this forum. I have no problems with that.

What I encourage the users of this forum to do is to stop and think, before you lash out with hasty generalizations. Think about what was collected from you (if you signed up for the beta from this unnamed site). It wasn't much was it? It was less info than you had to give to sign up for Disney's VMK right?

Also, try and keep an open mind about what you believe are scams. Tell me a SINGLE reason as to how a "scammer" would benefit by guessing your password to VMK and stealing all of your virtual items (which will be absolutely worthless in a month). Heck, I should give out my vmk password so you all can take my stuff, because it just ... doesn't ... matter anymore. [warning kids, don't actually do this. ;) ]

I've been getting PMs from many people telling me that Aengus says the site is a scam and that I shouldn't be extolling the virtues of it, so let me clear this up right here and now. I am in no way affiliated. I have never met any of the designers or the creator. I can't find anywhere where Aengus comes out and says the site is a scam, so don't twist words.

You have no idea how important communication is with me between my 2 daughters that can't live with me. You have no idea how much money I would send Disney to keep VMK open (hint: it would be more than your yearly salary), but guess what? VMK is closing. It is. So my point is, is that an option of going to another site after VMK closes holds high importance to me.

I have not thrown all my eggs into a single basket. I have literally tried all of the massive multiplayer games over the past 2 weeks, and None fit the mold that VMK has created. The site that we can't name, is just another option for me to try. And Jesus, I hope it is decent because ... well ... you have no idea.
