Please describe Soarin' to me

I have been on Soarin a number of times and I have yet to be able to look at the screen for the whole movie. I really really tried last year but then felt so queasy that I thought I might not be able to recover and had to look away for almost the whole rest. I do find if I look away intermittently I do better than if I try to watch the whole thing. I find it helpful to close my eyes or look straight to the side and block off the screen with my hand to help my brain realize that we are not moving at all. I like the side rows for that reason. It has NOTHING to do with the motion and everything to do with the illusion of motion. They say that is actually what contributes most to motion sickness - when your brain and body don't receive the same message. This is why it makes many (including me) car sick to read in the car, watch a movie, or ride facing backwards etc.

I still love this ride, and we do it many times per trip. I just wish I could really enjoy the entire experience, and not have to look away so many times to get my bearings. I do not ride Star Tours, Teacups, Primeval whirl or Mission Mars. In fact, even the star tunnel at the end of Buzz makes me sickish.....:rotfl:

When I did Star Tours, I got motion sick. Also did not enjoy the intense version of Mission Space. But I enjoyed Soarin' just fine... dont recall having to look away or close my eyes or anything like that.

I've tried Soarin a few times, and I always feel as if I'm going to fall out of my seat! So much so that I won't ride it anymore. I really wish they had a lap bar of some kind, instead of just a seat belt.

Also, if you are afraid of heights at all, the lowest level goes 10 feet into the air. I believe the top level is 40 feet up. You can choose a level if you want, but may have to wait a little extra for it.

ITA. I know it's probably exaggerated in my mind, but every so often those seats tip a little bit forward and freak me out (not that that's hard to do!). When looking at the movie, the heights freaked me out. It definitely did it's job of making me think I was floating high above California.

I looked back at the "mechanism" holding us there to un-freak myself out. It worked, but I won't ride it again.

However, I will say that I'm not prone to motion sickness. I'm just pretty much scared of everything. The only "motion" that bothered me was that slight tipping forward, but it bothered me because it made me think I was going to plummet to my death.

So, if you are like me, and like to feel secure in a seat, this won't be an enjoyable ride. However, motion sickness shouldn't be a worry.

So you felt secure on Diamondback? Had that restraint pop up one click on me too many times, glad they added the belts this year...Banshee is AWESOME!!!!! I live by KI

Yeah, loved Diamondback! Especially in front! Didn't have any problems, and actually my trick on those rides is to try to click it one more time while going up first lift hill. Works like a charm & keeps me in my seat :)

Last Wednesday was my first visit to KI, and loved it! Hated the dark coaster with just lap belt (can't remember name), and wasn't a fan of Bat, but liked everything else I rode.

Banshee was awesome! I just hated the whole renting locker thing. That last corkscrew that's kinda slowish at end killed me every time, but holy cow, was so worth it!

Sorry to throw off topic...

I get motion sickness pretty easily - I avoid Star Tours and Mission Space. But, Soarin' has never bothered me. I find it relaxing and really enjoy the ride. As others mentioned, you are looking at a huge screen. So, if you have a problem, you can close your eyes or just look to your extreme left or right to see the end of the screen. Since you are not moving, averting your eyes should end any momentary tinges of sickness. But, as I already stated, I have never had trouble on this. And, my DD, who get sick in cars, boats, planes, etc. can ride this without any problems.
