I have been on Soarin a number of times and I have yet to be able to look at the screen for the whole movie. I really really tried last year but then felt so queasy that I thought I might not be able to recover and had to look away for almost the whole rest. I do find if I look away intermittently I do better than if I try to watch the whole thing. I find it helpful to close my eyes or look straight to the side and block off the screen with my hand to help my brain realize that we are not moving at all. I like the side rows for that reason. It has NOTHING to do with the motion and everything to do with the illusion of motion. They say that is actually what contributes most to motion sickness - when your brain and body don't receive the same message. This is why it makes many (including me) car sick to read in the car, watch a movie, or ride facing backwards etc.
I still love this ride, and we do it many times per trip. I just wish I could really enjoy the entire experience, and not have to look away so many times to get my bearings. I do not ride Star Tours, Teacups, Primeval whirl or Mission Mars. In fact, even the star tunnel at the end of Buzz makes me sickish.....
