Please confirm my banking/booking understanding...

We currently have 150 remaining 2011 points (April UY).

We want to use 75 of those points to stay at Vero in April, 2012.

We should book with those 75 points, and bank the remaining 75 (before 11/30), correct?

I am not sure whether we should bank the 150 first, then book the Vero trip with 75.

(We're most concerned about what would happen if we had to cancel the Vero trip, and am not sure whether the order of booking/banking would have any effect on that.)

I would consider banking the 150 remaining April UY points.
Then make the 4/12 ressie asking MS to use the banked points first.
That way, should you have to cancel (31 days or more ahead) those banked points would remain available to you thur the remainder of your april '12 UY.

Your April, 2011 Use Year ends March 31, 2012 so any points from the 2011 UY that you want to use in April, 2012 will need to be banked before you can make a reservation at VB for next April.

If you later cancel the VB trip, the banked points will be returned to your account for use before March 31, 2013 so you'll have plenty of time to re-use them.

If you know you won't be using any of those 150 points before April, 2012, I'd bank them all now and use the 75 you'll need for that VB trip.

yep, your 2011 use year pts can be "used" for stays from april 2011-mar 2012. if you bank them, they can be used for stays from april 2012-mar 2013.

once you bank or borrow pts, remember that they stay in the new use year and cannot be put back.

Thanks for that thread. I've bookmarked it. Very helpful. I think what confused me was when I started to think about the 31+ and 1-30 cancellation windows and consequences of cancelling in each. I now see that that issue is entirely separate from UY and banking.
