Please compare US / IOA rides to Cedar Point coasters??

alright since no one is comparing the rides, i will:

CP's Power Tower and IOA's Dr. Doom's Fearfall:
as the other person already compared, Power Tower is taller and faster while DDFF is themed and has a backstory. Other than that, same basic ride.

CP's Thunder Canyon and IOA's Bilge Rat Barges:
just like the comparison above, IOA's rapids are themed while CP's are not. They are both the same basic ride.

CP's Snake River Falls and IOA's Jurassic Park River Adventure:
Snake River Falls is a common shoot the chutes ride which is a 16-20 seater boat going up a hill, turning, and going down the drop. JP has those same elements but is much much longer with a bunch of theming and a story added into it.

CP's Raptor and IOA's Dueling Dragons:
both rollercoasters are B&M inverted coasters but again, while Raptor is taller and faster, it doesnt have nearly the same kind of theming Dueling Dragons has. If you close your eyes on both rides, you wont feel too much of a differance.

and that is where the comparison ends. Both CP and USF have many many more rides and shows that just arent comparible. Go to Cedar Point's website to see what else they have and go to USF's site to see what they have.

Thank you. Thank you very much.

Regardless of themes etc., i just want information about equivalency in rides. Its not a matter of preferring themeing over no-theming; we love the movies, have done studio tours in Hollywood (paramount, warner bros etc) and will likely love UA / IOA, also. We just wanted information, which is one of the wonderful aspects of the DIS.

So thank you again. Thank you everyone!

And if anyone thinks of other similarities, please post them!

:)

I live less than 45minutes from CP & go far too often, and generally alternate US/IOA with WDW each year...and sometimes combine them too! :teeth:

You've been given great, accurate info, but I'd like to add a few things:

1 If you're using FOTL, you really miss alot of the themeing. Don't get me wrong, I always use it, but I've also done most of the rides without it as well.

2 US/IOA is quite easy to do in a couple of days, and really, it's something to be experienced. Not quite WDW and not quite CP either; very cool & unique in it's own way.

3 Once you use FOTL it becomes VERY hard to justify 3-4 hr wait times at CP...and we stay onsite there as well! We still do it, but it sure would be nice to have FOTL there! Ditto the waits at WDW, but at least Fastpass helps.

We've found it's great to either split the trip or alternate parks each visit...and we always miss whichever one we're not in.

Well, that's certainly different - escaping FL for Sandusky & Pittsburgh.;) How'd you like the Thunderbolt, Jack Rabbit & Racers? They don't offer season passes to Kennywood - wish they would, I live less than 1 hour away.

The running of the bulls @ Cedar Point to the coasters is a sight to see. Not my thing...takes too long to get on the rides & it kills me to pay more money to stay on Lake Erie than a deluxe hotel @ WDW or Myrtle Beach.

Cedar Points' kiddie area is almost an afterthought...the park is all about the Coasters. If you have a chance & don't want to drive all the way to Pittsburgh from Sandusky, Geagua Lake has a few pretty cool wooden coasters too & it's about 2 hours drive.

I've been to CP a few times, along with the other parks in the Ohio area.

CP is worth the visit. What I usually do, is fly into Columbus Ohio (CMH), and drive the 2 hours South to Paramounts Kings Island (PKI). After that, I either drive to Pittsburgh to visit Kennywood, or to CP (5 hours to the north).
If you decide on going, stay at the Breakers Express hotel, because you get in early at 9am as a hotel guest. Otherwise, you wait until 09:30am. Early guests get on two coasters before everyone else.

CP is an Amusement park, while USF/IOA is a theme park. There's a major differance between the two. CP is more of a midway style, the rides are not theamed as much. Whereas, when you visit IOA, each ride has an elaborate queue, music playng, and effects. Here, I'll give you an example.

IOA - Dr. Doom - Shot ride with theamed queue, fog, speech before blastoff.
CP - Tower Power - 240 foot shot ride (taller than Dr. Doom), no theme, no fog, no speech.
Both rides are great.

I could compare more, but the post would go on forever. You know, if your husband really wants the thrill thing, and you and the kids don't, then let him fly up alone. I'm serious. I've been to Ohio many times by myself, leaving the wife and kid at home. This reduces the costs. He could fly up for $200 round trip, drive to CP, stay 2 nights at Breakers Express and get a thrill fix.
I did eventually take the wife and kid up there. We went to CP to start the trip, then went on a horseback ride, then to PKI.
