Please allow me to introduce my students....

Is it too late to apply for the Fall 2010 semester at Western Illinois? Because I'm going back to school in IL (my home state) -- I'd be transferring in as a junior -- and I would seriously love to take this class! :lmao:

Seriously, I just read this whole board and this class sounds like a blast!

Welcome Jeff. Have fun learning about all things Disney. :goodvibes Don't hesitate to ask questions. Answers will come flying. Penny:hippie:

Hello all!

I'm another one of the students in the Communication Around the World Class. I am not nearly as familiar with WDW like many of you are, but I am interested in learning more about it. I went once two years ago over New Year's with our high school marching band and we got to march through one of the parks (Magic Kingdom I believe). Anyway, I'm hoping to learn a lot from everyone so I know what I'm doing when our class actually visits WDW. Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

Jeff

Welcome Jeff....better late than never!:goodvibes:goodvibes

Hi Everyone!!

Welcome to the Dis!!

Your class sounds great!!

And speaking of university, my very first visit to WDW was at the end of my freshman year in university - way back in May, 1974. After finishing our first year at Johns Hopkins, my roommate and I drove down to WDW from Baltimore (in a pinto  ) .

We camped for a week at Fort Wilderness (in a tent), then I moved over to the Contemporary Resort to join my family for a week (they'd flown down from Detroit to meet me).

Well the rest was history. I've visited WDW at least once a year since then, introducing my husband to WDW on our honeymoon in 1978 and then continued the brain-washing project with our kids.
They don't call us Disneyholic family for nothing.

While we would visit WDW about twice a year when we lived in Michigan, since moving to Israel, we've had to resign ourselves to one visit a year - albeit a nice long 3 week visit. But those 3 weeks race by faster than you can imagine.

Anyway, i guess this is a warning to the 'virgins' among you. There's NO TURNING BACK now. :goodvibes

I know it's been a few days since somebody posted in this thread, but I just wanted to thank Kathy for the shout-out to our class on this week's show.

So class, what topics have you been discussing lately?

Oh wow. I wish i had classes that were all on Disney! I would be in an AP class with A's every quarter! :rotfl:
Welcome!

Last Sunday we learned about Communication in Organizations. We also started looking at how wdw keeps high service standards. We also learned how The Unofficial Guide To Disney World critiques restaurants.

let me just say, it feels pretty special for the DisUnplugged podcast to mention a special class at a WIU. :)

It was my pleasure to mention the class on the Podcast. :) Looking forward to meeting you all in person.

This is just an honors class that isn't usually taught, Dave just decided to teach it this semester and we're not sure if it will continue to be taught in future semesters. As far as getting accepted to Western, all the scholarshisps have been given out, but I think you can still apply.

Hi Jordan, my son (teenager) and I are both adrenaline junkies-- and for that we love "Rock N Rollercoaster" at Disney Hollywood Studios - he's a big fan of Tower of Terror also....

At Epcot - we love Test Track - fun, along with neat details while you wait in line.

Magic Kingdom - big fans of Space Mountain and Splash Mountain -- and you've got Expedition Everest (coaster) over at Animal Kingdom

One of the cool things about Disney is there's something for everyone. It's not like going to a smaller theme park like say Six Flags....where you can do it in a day...Disney is massive, many parks, many themes, something for everyone...it's huge.

Not sure if these are the "coolest" rides, but they'll get you pumped and you won't feel like it's "just a kid's place"...Disney is about so much more than the rides though...the themes, the details...it's EVERYWHERE...details on every mancover, ever fence post, every window...it's how nothing is overlooked, and is not like when you go to a smaller theme park and run from ride to ride....at Disney, even the walk from place to place is pretty darn amazing - because there's so much to see, and so much to take in...

oh yeah, and there's waterparks, golf, downtown disney, disneyquest, movie theater, tons of resorts...and the list goes on - it's huge.

Awesome, thanks for that info. Besides the rides (which i loved them all when I went to WDW) What was your favorite attraction? I remember the 3-D videos were pretty fun, but I can't remember much more of the featured attractions at the parks.

So i know this is completely off topic, be we have been talking about perceptions a lot in class, how the Disney cast always smiles, aren't allowed to have tattoos, or piercings, and even are required to take tests before they are allowed to be maskless characters.

Taking image into consideration, and Superbowl Sunday (mandate christmas), what are you predictions for today. Mine: Saints 38 Colts 35

Two things...
One, I'm happy for the Saints this year and it truly is an impressive story for them to make it to the super bowl for the first time in franchise history. However, this "Cinderalla" story may end soon. I just think Peyton Manning has more experience in these high profile games then Drew does. I am looking forward to the game though and think it will be a close one.

Two, I am a runner for Western and was given a workout for the week we will be in WDW. Does anyone have any suggestions that would be good places to get some running in. I will only be running 5 or 6 miles tops each day so the route doesn't have to be long, just something that is relatively flat. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Where are you staying when you go? I saw many people running when we stayed at the Boardwalk. I am thinking you could run to Epcot, then run back around the lake and then down to DHS and back? I think if you do it twice it might be 5 or 6 miles. As I believe it is over a mile for me to walk from the Parking Lot into Epcot, I obviously have nooooo perception of distance. :goodvibes Let's just say I wouldn't want to walk it twice. :scared1:Penny

I will remain neutral on the Superbowl. Dear friends in Indy and NOLA.

For running, it depends upon where you are staying.
Here is a list of suggestions specific to resorts and offers running maps of some resorts. I tried to find this info on the DIS, but came up empty.http://allears.net/btp/running.htm
