A couple of weeks ago, I had posted with concern about our Delta flights from Dallas to Orlando, as both were very full. We were flying on Skymiles award tickets, and I was worried that we would be some of the first to be denied boarding, if it came to that.
The flight to Orlando apparently did not oversell, and was uneventful. On the return flight, however, the boarding area was really packed. We had reserved seats and boarding passes for 11ABC, quite near the front of coach. We checked in quite early.
We were waiting to board, but with our seating, we would be some of the last ones boarded. While listening for our row to finally be called, we were paged to the counter. Uh oh, I thought. To my pleasant surprise, our party of 3 was upgraded to first class. They said they needed some more coach seats. You didn't hear me quibble!! My DS, aged 15, got a huge kick out of this. It was one of those "Sky Deli" flights, where you pick up your own snack while boarding. Instead, we were eating steak and drinking wine. It was a wonderful way to take the sting out of going home.
I have no idea why we were chosen, but I'm glad we were!!
