I know there must be some stampers around here!

A friend of mine is getting married and brilliant me brought up the idea of making our own placecards for dinner. I know a little bit about stamping but not a lot.

What we want to do is a business card size placecard (or slightly bigger) with a peacock feather stamp and a name underneath. I found a couple stamps for the feather, but I'm totally boggled how to do the names. I don't want to get into handwriting them because I will misspell them at the slightest distraction. I don't want Bob to become **** or Sarah to be Srah. I seem to remember seeing something, possibly with Martha Stewart that helped you line up letter and keep them square, anyone know what this is? And is there a way to put alphabet stamps together so I can stamp a whole name at once rather than letter by letter? We also were looking at using embossing powder in some kind of peacock color (in case you haven't figured it out this whole wedding is peacock themed). I've never used embossing powder before, but I do know you have to heat it. My question with it is do I stamp with ink or with those clear pads with the sticky stuff?

I'm crafty in all but the stamping and scrapbooking area. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!! TIA

I haven't done a lot of stamping but can answer one of your questions. With embossing you do use heat to get the raised effect.

If you want to make the names easy for your self...you could buy plain place cards at an office supply or hobby store in the wedding section. They come in 8.5x11 sheets of paper. Then run them through your printer to add the names. (There are a lot of great free fonts at www.dafont.com) Then stamp the peacock feather design and use embossing powder and a heating tool to embellish it.

This will save you a lot of time and tedium trying to get all of the names stamped and correct.

I just helped my friend with her wedding invites. They used stamps with blue ink and then the embossing powder. My friend bought a powder that has a rainbow glitter effect when you turned the card in the light. That may be what you are looking for. I can't remember the exact name of the "color," but can find out. We also found by accident that if you use an inkjet printer, the embossing powder will stick to the ink as long as it's wet (right off the printer). I had to print out her Reservation cards with the restaurant info. Then they stamped the "reservation" stamp on the card in the space above the text and embossed it.

I helped a friend with her wedding invitations and the embossing ink stuck to the ink right after we ran it through the printer as well so that we could emboss a leaf image we had printed. You could emboss the names right after you print them. Then stamp the feather and emboss it seperately.

Thanks guys. I'll give it a shot and see how it works. I'm going to repost my original message on the Creative Community boards just out of curiosity.
