I've made reservations for the Plaza Restaurant in the Magic Kingdom for our dinner the day we are there. We only have one day for MK and we are on the dining plan. I was wondering what you all think about the Plaza and whether I should keep my reservations there or go to one of the monorail hotels (In regards to eating in the park, we've eaten at Liberty Tree Tavern before, my mom didn't want to do a character dinner at Crystal Palace, and we have another Italian dinner, so Tony's is out.), we have eaten at Ohana and 1900 Park before. Opinions please.

It's a great restaurant but a louse use of a DP credit. All sandwhiches which while good are hardly worth the expense of a credit. What about 1900 PF, the Wave, Kona or whispering Canyon? There all within easy reach of where your going to be.

Kona at Poly or Grand Floridian cafe at GF would also be a good choice. Easy to get to by taking the monorail or boat.

when we were there they had a special of meatloaf that dh loved. They also had great soups, dh had chicken noodle and I had tomato. These were not the menu but was offered at the restaurant.

I did have a sandwich but it was very good. The atmosphere was great. It is not a large place but we enjoyed it. If you only have one day why leave. Stay and enjoy the restaurant.

It was our first time there but we will be back.

We tried The Plaza for the first time on our last trip and enjoyed it. The food was good, portions were big, and the location couldn't be more convenient!

If you're doing just 1 day at the MK, I'd eat in the park instead of using time to get to/from a resort for lunch. Eating at The Plaza will give you some time to sit and take a little break from park touring without taking too much time.

One thing to keep in mind....The Plaza is a small restaurant and has no public restrooms. To wash your hands, use the park restrooms before you eat that are to your right if you're standing in front of the restaurant and looking at the Castle rather than waiting until you're in the restaurant because otherwise you'd have to leave The Plaza to use the restrooms. This is just a small detail but good to know. : )

Here are a few photos from our meal. We also had a kid's meal at our table and a few desserts but I didn't put those photos on Photobucket yet. It was all good!

It all depends on what is more important to you...Time in the park and being able to have a good meal or maximizing your dining plan and having a fantastic dinner? Don't get me wrong...we love The Plaza! The food/service have always been good and the milkshakes are the best we've had anywhere in the parks. They will give you a good meal without having to leave the park and a nice place to rest your feet. But if you are looking for some fancier dining and don't mind spending some time to get there, my vote would be for Kona's. It was hands-down the best meal we had on our last trip! The service was wonderful and the food exceeded our expectations! :goodvibes

has some nice sandwiches and a place, in my opinion, where the dessert on the DDP is always worthwhile. It is in no way a fancy meal.

I really like the point made by a PP. If you value time in the MK then it can save you a lot of time. If you're more interested in food, the Plaza is fine but the Wave in the Contemporary or Kona in the Poly are better choices.

We love the Plaza! I agree, it is not the best use of a TS credit on the dining plan, but it is a great little place to eat. Since this will be your only day at the MK, I would eat at the park. The Plaza has great sandwiches and great desserts!

You should keep in mind that the Plaza has a simpler menu than most of the other restaurants (sandwiches, salads, etc.) but we love it. It is one of our favorite places to eat in WDW and definitely our favorite in the MK. People talk about it not being the best use of a dining plan credit, but if you enjoy the meal, who really cares (and their desserts can't be beat!). If you're a salad lover, try their salad with chicken and strawberries in a white balsamic vinagrette - trust me, it's heaven!

Also, it sounds easy enough to hop on the monorail to one of those resort restaurants, but it does take a lot more time and energy than you first think. Maximize your time in the MK and enjoy the Plaza!

The food at The Plaza is fantastic!!!! THAT is what makes good use of a credit for me!! The sandwiches are huge, fries are the best in WDW, and the ice cream desserts are huge and scrumptious!!! Keep The Plaza - I wouldn't want to leave the park on my one and only MK day!!!!:thumbsup2

Why leave the MK if you're only there one day? I'd hate to do that. Besides, we really like the Plaza. It's sandwiches, mostly, but they're delicious. It's a very quaint and pretty restaurant and sometimes the entertainers from Main Street come in and perform when you are eating.

As a little aside, the reason there aren't any restrooms inside the restaurant is because during that time period, restaurants didn't have restrooms inside. Convenient, no. In keeping with the theme, yes.

With regard to it not being "worth" a DDP credit, I don't agree. The way we look at it is we've already paid for the plan and we eat where we enjoy...it would be exhausting to analyze every place we want to eat at to make sure it is equal to what we paid for the DDP. We figure it all evens out in the end. Enjoy!

We've never eaten at the Plaza...it's at the end of Main St., correct? Do you always need a ressie becuase they're busy or can you walk in to get a table?

So happy to see all these great reviews of The Plaza as I booked it for the first time for our trip in April :yay:

Yes, it is on the end of Main Street on the right side.

According to the time of year, you may be able to walk in, but I would make an ADR, just to be on the safe side. The Plaza is one of the few restaurants that you can generally make a reservation a few days out, and get it.

We ate at the Plaza on our most recent trip for the first time. It was also our first trip on DDP.

It is a lot more reasonably priced than a lot of other TS places which makes it less of a "value" on the DDP. However, it was one of our most enjoyable meals, so we were happy with the choice. Everything we ordered was good -- especially the milkshake. We had a great view of the castle. My kids rated the Plaza's kids meals among the best of the trip.

We would definitely do it again, either with or without DDP.

We really enjoyed our meal at the Plaza, excellent reuben and french fries!

Both times we ate there were slow times of year and they were quoting people without ADRs an hour and a half wait.

Gotta ditto that. The reuben is the reason I picked the Plaza. We were on DDP but paid oop for this one as we use 2 credits on HDDR, and we got out for under $20 apiece.
Our server was an older large woman who moved like molasses and we were worried about taking forever. This woman never wasted a trip and kept everyone refilled and the food came out quickly. We were back on Main Street 45 minutes after we walked in.

Keep it! We ate there 12/18/09 and it was one of our favorite meals of the trip. Large portions, great sandwiches and desserts.

We love the Plaza and we always eat there our first park day. This year we'll be eating there twice. The sandwiches are good and the desserts are great!
