We are trying to decide which way to go...iPod, zune, archos or just what to get.

DS already has a MP3 wants it more for TV shows or Movies, can you do that on a PSP?

thanks

You used to be able to pick up movies on UMD, but those kind of died off when people were more interested in gaming on it. TV is also something I've heard very little about.

you can but you have to download those and then buy prgrams to put them on the psp

No, not really. You don't buy Programs to play them, unless you are doing illegal things on your PSP. And you don't download them. The only things that you download on your PSP is updates for the firmware and whatever it is you feel like on the internet.

To summarize the Wiki, UMDs are the disks that you put into the PSP to play your games or watch your movies.

I would suggest something other than PSP if you are going for the multimedia, it doesn't seem that very many movies are being made for it anymore.

I would go with PSP.
even though they dont make to many movies for
it, if you have a big enough memory card thingy
you can download the movies onto your PSP.

hmm... Well, I have a psp, I mainly use it for gaming, but I also got movies for it. Though, i don't watch many movies on it anymore since I got a video ipod. I also use it for the internet, knowing I am going to paneras to eat when I go out shopping... to check up on things ;)

If he is just mainly use it for movies and tv shows, I would suggest an ipod, it has a bigger storage space. On the psp you would have to use an media card, which the biggest is like 2 gigs compared to the largest ipod which is 80 gigs. And movies files aren't small either, each movie is about a gig.

Also, for the ipod there are special connectors, i guess i could say, that could hook up your ipod to the tv and watch movies and such on the tv from your iPod.. I got a speaker last year for christmas/birthday, this speaker does that... I actually used it for when I go to my grandmas or When I play the not study game at college ;)

Edit: I just found this website... you just need a cable, I didn't try it yet... it's 1 am my ipod is in another room so is the tv, i don't want to wake the family... I will try it in the morning

thank you patchy....I bought him the video thing for his DS Lite and can not figure out how to get anything saved to it.

So I think the iPod is a better option.

Do you have the 30 or the 80?

Well i would think it's a better option only if he wants to use it more for videos... if he wants to play the psp games then go for the psp...

Well i have the 30 gig (i would have gotten and 80 gig, but i had to pay for it)... I have 8 full movies on there, I have the third season of the office (about 23 episodes, all about 30 minutes), two other episodes (45 minutes each) and about 30 video podcast all ranging from 1:30 minutes to 25 minutes. I also have 1500 songs and downloaded two games from itunes store... I still have 6 gigs left...But if I had an 80 gig there would be alot more movies on there... lol

Yeah the screen may be smaller than a psp, but it can just fit alot more...

I know how to download to a iPod but if the PSP is as difficult as the DSlite then I think the iPod might be a better solution.

thanks again for your input. Good to kow what the 30 gig holds.

It is his money also so he wants the most bang for his buck.

Ok I got a question doesn't the PSP have a bigger screen? I would brather buy UMD's and I don't need to be worried about running out of space and I can get a bigger screen since I don't want to squint to watch my video or movies? Ill research on screen sizes

2.5-inch-iPod Video
4.3 Inchs- PSP

Id get the PSP since it would be hard squinting into that small ipod screen?

4.3 inchs and can do all an ipod can do with same storage

Well, she could go get one of those... but who is it buy? What is it? meaning not that it's a mp3 player, but what is it called?

The reason why I said iPod because I know it's a good mp3 player...Yeah you can buy a psp, but you have to carry all the umds around.. and I have been looking for a good case for them and there has been nothing... and it does become a hassle to bring around the umds....

Patchy makes a good point apple needs to add a bigger screen to the video ipod.

how much do the umds run?

how difficult is it to download to them?

Well you don't need to download umds, a umds is like a very very small dvd, but it is put in a plastic case to protect it and actually played in the plastic. They cost alot depending on what movie you buy... some can cost more than the dvd itself...

Next time you go to best buy, Wal-mart (they may have them, they may not), or just check out the internet. Go to the Psp section there, there should be a movies either with the games, or next to the games (best buy usually have more of a selection)... check out the prices to see, if the titles you are interested in are costly...
