Hi.

Does anyone know if you can get software and/or device to allow UK PS2s to play Amercian games?I know you can get Freeloader for Gamecube and was wondering if something similiar was available for PS2.

Hi Jon,

As far as I know there is no simple device available for the PS2 that allows you to play import games from another region.

The are web sites that offer a mod chip that would provide you with this functionality but in order to fit it you would need to take your PS2 apart and solder the chip onto the circuit board

I would stick with UK games if I were you, if you get them from somewhere like www.play.com then they are not too expensive either

If you ask me it's all a ploy to dismantle the old PS2 and then when it won't go together again, to have to buy one of the lovely new funky mini sized PS2s

The new slimline PS2's are very easy to modify for imports/copies.....you only need 2 pieces of tape and a disk swapping cd.

It seems strange that $ony would make a new model that is even easier to hack.

could you get a PS 2 in the states and use it over here

if u were going to buy a us ps2 u woudl have to buy a step up converter here so the power supply would work, u would have to speak to an independant games store so u coudl get one. and also if u do that u would then need to find somewhere here that supplies the games. But to be honest games are only released at a maximum of bout 2-4 weeks earlier there now, so its not a huge bonus anymore importing games.
