PlatniumTel customer? You'll want to read this...

My only concern would be if they switched phones, so that the ones they offer now wouldn't work under the new carrier.

Other than that, looks like T-Mobile has comparable, if not better, coverage in my area than Sprint.

From their comments on Facebook, it sounds like the CDMA phones will work for "most" of 2013, but by the end of the year (or earlier) they will stop working and you will need to purchase a GSM phone to continue service.

I'm not thrilled, since I have DD12 on PlatinumTel. But their Real PayGo rates and service are good, so I'll probably suck it up and get her a new phone that will work. I'm just disappointed because I really liked the phone she has now, since it allowed me to block certain features I didn't want her using.

Thanks for the info.. Looks as if I'll be making a call to complain then. DD's phone has only been activated for a couple weeks. She hasn't even received it yet (getting it for her birthday this Saturday). :-(

Wow, their customer service is awesome!

I e-mailed them, and within an hour got a reply back offering me 2 options available to me..

#1, keep the phone, use it till they switch over, then buy a new phone (which they said they'll be offering deals to current customers) and transfer the balance of my card plus keep the same phone # for free.

#2, send the phone and the card back, get my money back, and just start anew once they make the switch.

I'm opting for #1 because that way my dd will be able to have a phone to use from the time she gets it on Saturday till the switch-over is final. Plus, I'll have the 2nd phone then to do with what I want.. (if I buy a SIM card from any company, could I use this phone, anyone know?)

There customer service is definitely one of the reasons I really like them. I think they are still small enough to care about losing customers - they don't have the "ehh - losing one customer doesn't really matter" attitude. Glad to hear they will offering us some deals!

Hard to say, since PT is not yet using T-Mobile equipment -- they may, or may not "lock" the handset to accept T-Mobile SIMs, only...
