Platform beds: Do you have one? Do you like it?

I have a platform bed and have had it for a long time. I like it very much and just bought a new mattress for it. For years I've had a firm mattress, but now that I'm getting older I've decided on a softer one. Without a box spring, the platform acts something like a bed board.

The bed you like looks great. My only caution is to be aware that you could end up walking into the part that goes beyond the mattress. My bed has a lip that the mattress fits into and I can't tell you how many times I have bumped my shin on the frame.

Good luck with your decision.

We have a queen-sized one with 3 drawers on each side and a long one down the middle, plus 2 cabinets in the headboard part.

I love all the extra storage space it affords! (We need it, too.)

We've had a platform bed for years now and we love it. We originally bought it because it was more unique than standard bedroom sets. Now we love it because of the extra space it provides!
My only input on the picture you showed is similar to Miss Janes -- you need to be careful of the piece that sticks out beyond the mattress. We had a similar one for a year or two, but opted for a different model that was the same size as the mattress to save our legs!

Hope this helps...

We have had one for about 4 years and love it. I agree with the bumping shins part. I have a 4" ledge around mine and I have to slide out over it all the time as I am so short. DH doesn't have that problem. We put a 1/2 profile box springs under our mattress to bring it up 4" to make it easier for me to get out. Now it is about the height of a regular bed or just a little lower.

Thanks you all! I really really want one, but I do not know where to start shopping for one. I want one that is of really great quality and that will last for some time. I want a king sized one. If any of you dont mind sharing, could I ask how much you paid for it and what price range I could expect?

I'm so glad you posted this....I've been looking for one too. DH says I don't need one because it will be hard to get up our staircase. He jokes we'll have to leave it with the house when we sell it!

Mine is a queen sized platform that came in two pieces and is screwed together so that bringing it into the apartment was not a big problem. It was assembled after being brought in.

Can't remember how much I paid for it -- it was so long ago -- but relatively speaking it wasn't all that expensive. When I bought it, I bought only the bed and no matching pieces. It has a storage headboard which I really like.
