Plastic Protector Sheets on Beds?

We'll be going to WDW in three weeks! The only thing I'm really worried about is the fact that my (will have just turned) 5 year old is still in pull ups at night, but frequently has "leakage" during the night. He has a plastic protector over his mattress at home, but will our resort (POFQ) provide this? If not, what do people do to protect the bed? I'd be horribly embarrassed if he did leak all over the bed one night.

I don't think the resorts will provide this. We also had an issue of my 3yo leaking on the bed at ASMO--- I took off all the sheets right away, stripped the bed (luckily before it really got on the mattress, and called and got new sheets. Next trip I knew better. Next trip we stayed at OKW, and I brought my own queen size mattress protector. I also bring fitted sheets, because their sheets aren't fitted, and I don't find them comfortable.

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. My 4.5 year old wears pull ups at night too and I'm concerned that he'll wet the bed at POFQ. Plus, he'll be sleeping with my 6 year old and I don't want him feeling uncomfortable.

Take one or two large trashbags (like the yard type) and put them under the sheet. It won't feel any different than the plastic sheet from home.

Maybe also consider trying the "goodnites". They are intended for older children and should hold more without leaking.

Or you could bring a large waterproof pad with you (they sell them in the baby section at Walmart.)

I remember reading it once somewhere in a similar thread...

They had suggested the largest size puppy training "wee wee" pads and putting them under the sheets...because they're absorbent enough to handle any leaks but also disposable so the mess would get tossed and you would not need to do un-necessary laundry.

Just relaying the info..maybe it'll work for someone??

Hmmm- I'm thinking now of maybe bringing his plastic sheet from home & putting it across the bed. It's for a single bed, so it wouldn't be big enough at POFQ, but it's wide enough that putting it across the bed would easily cover where the leakage would happen.

MSSANDRA- I did try the goodnites for a while - I don't know if they're a bit different in the UK than the US, but over here they are a much rougher material than regular pull ups & Connor ended up with a sore rash on his bottom, but thanks for the suggestion. I'm constantly on the lookout for a new type to try.

This is the type of thing we did. The one we found was actually just a pad that goes across the needed section (about two feet wide) and tucks under the sides of the bed so it is easy and will work on various size beds. The big plus was that it is not plastic, it is cotton and absorbs, but made special not to soak thru. I hope I don't get flamed, but I could not imagine using TRASH BAGS :sad2:

check your local drugstore for a pack of disposable mattress pads (usually in the aisle where the bladded control producs are). They come in a pack of about 20 for $9. They are great for kids as they just are plastic on the uderside but are softand absorbent on top. My son slept on the pad with the sheet underneath (so that if anythng happened there was no need to change the sheets).

I suggested this in another thread so it may have been mine you read. My in-laws use these for their dog, so when we visit them they use them on their bed for my son (5 years old). He has accidents every now and then so better safe than sorry. What they do is put the puppy pad on top of the fitted sheet and then lay a towel or another folded flat sheet on top of it ). If he happens to have an accident, they just peel away until the layer is dry.

I like the suggestion that walkena had about the disposable mattress pads that they sell at the drugstore. They might be better since they are made to go under adults, they may hold more. I may have to look into those for our trip!

When we go away I bring pee-wee pads & put a few between the sheet & the mattress. Or as others have suggested just bring what you use at home.

For what its worth, the disposible ones will hold a lot...I had one on my bed when my water broke! ...and all was fine :)

The resorts do have rubber sheets. You would request them from Housekeeping.

I think I will just bring a plastic mattres cover & a large pad - we do that for the house we stay @ down the shore (at least the plastice cover will hopefully keep the critters IN the mattress & not on ME!! My DS still wears a diaper at night & soaks through sometimes (better to be safe then sorry-since he'll be sleeping w/one of us, pack n play is to little for him-he's kinda tall for his age!!)

When we were at WL last September, they did not have rubber sheets. They offered to use a shower curtain liner. They put that on the bed under the sheet. It made for a very cold, crinkly, uncomfortable bed.

Sorry to hear that. They have had them in the past at all the resorts (people have posted they got them). They are also listed in the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities as something that is available from Housekeeping.

i heard that a platic tablecloth works well! and they fold pretty much flat in the suitcase and you can wipe them clean!

That's a good idea. If the plastic tablecloth is one that has stuff like flannel on the back, it will stay in place better than if the front and back were both plastic.

I bought a mattress pad at Target last week for $10. I am bringing it with us. I is big and almost covers an entire twin bed.
