Plastic jungle nightmare! What can I do with these?

Well, I'm pretty annoyed with Plastic Jungle. I ordered Disney Gift Cards at a 10% discount thinking I would be able to use them to pay for part of my cruise at a discount. Unfortunately, even though they show the ordinary gift card on the Plastic Jungle site what I got was a bunch of Disney merchandise credit cards which it seems you can't use for making cruise payments. They look completely different than the cards they show. They have MERCHANDISE CREDIT in bold on a plain white card, not the Mickey Disney Store cards they advertised on the site. It was not posted anywhere that these were not the regular gift cards or that they were called merchandise credit cards or that they were limited in any way. My receipt even says Disney Store Gift Cards with a picture of the standard GC on it. I purchased them months ago but didn't try to use them until now so I don't know if I'll have any recourse when I contact Plastic Jungle. Anyway, assuming I'm stuck with them ($1,500+) does anyone know if I can use them to pay our tips via guest services on the ship or for excursions? We're not big souvinier people so it'll take us forever to buy that many toys, t-shirts or stuffed animals, although I'm sure my kids won't complain...

Wow! I don't have any answers for you as far as recourse, but that's FRAUD!
I would think there MUST be something you can do. If the company fails to make it right, I would imagine you could go higher (BBB, government agencies, etc). It's so difficult though when dealing with online companies when sometimes you don't even know where they originate from.
That's awful! :sad2: I'd be furious! :headache:

I would have been worried the minute I saw that they looked different and called then. Not sure what you can do now...but definitely call and see what they say. Does is say they can be used at Disney Stores or Disney locations. I have never seen a white card with merchandise credit on it. Does it say Disney anywhere on it? Unless it is the current Disney gift card I do not think you will be able to use it onboard to put towards your purchases.

Sound like a merchandise credit you get from stores when you return something without a receipt.

MJ

If you paid by credit card, contact them as well, and explain the situation. Especially the part about the picture of the regular, usable gift cards being on the receipt.

If you go to the Plastic jungle website they don't list Disney anymore.

I agree that if you paid for them using a credit card, that would be your best recourse. You'll probably need something in writing (an email, etc, with the description that says "Disney Gift Card") since it's apparently not on the site any more.

I hope they can help you. That really stinks. You might want to see if someone can tell you what the Gift Cards really are good for.

I found this info,

As one of the hottest gift cards on Plastic Jungle, make sure to set a Disney Store email alert to be notified when new, discounted Disney Store Gift Cards or Online Gift Cards become available on the site. Disney Store Gift Cards are good for purchases online at DisneyStore.com, and in Disney Stores. (Redeemable at DisneyStore.com, Disney Store locations in the US, participating locations at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, Disneyland Resort in California, Disney Cruise Line, ClubPenguin.com, and DisneyPhotoPass.com). You can also use the Disney Store Gift Cards as a form of payment for Disneyland Resort vacation packages by calling the Walt Disney Travel Company California at 1-866-470-5119.

Could you use the cards to buy real Disney Gift Cards? Just occurred to me.

Ugh, I do remember reading this but apparently not carefully enough. Because when I saw DCL and resort reservation I assumed I could use it to book a reservation anywhere Disney, not just Disneyland, so it's my fault, however since the card says merchandise credit I think they should call it what it is and not just in the small print. I'm going to call once I get a moment away from the kids.

The disney store cards are often heavily discounted, but it's hard to find the regular gift cards (usable on cruises or at the parks) with any discount at all. As a matter of fact, sometimes you see them actually sell for more than face amount on ebay which is very perplexing to me.

I am sorry for the OP -- it's definitely confusing and it sounds like plastic jungle added to the confusion. Please let us know how it turns out.

Have you called DCL directly and asked to speak to a supervisor and get his/her answer. Don't talk to whoever answers the call. They may not know there is a difference.

Your cards are store credit good for in store purchases only, excluding gift cards, as pp said. I would contact Plastic Jungle, explain that what was advertised was different than what was received and tell them you are planning to dispute the charges w/ your credit card.

My thought is that these might be the cards that were offered a couple of years ago to people who booked a WDW package. You could purchase a gift card at a discount (like $750 for a $1000 gift card) and they were only good for merchandise. You could not even use them for food purchases at WDW, only merchandise and were good forever. The offer went out to specific people and you had to have a pin code to get them. Maybe I'm wrong but this is what they sound like to me.

I think that the info Mom323 posted is actually meant to be helpful for you. Sorry to hear about this. We usually pay off our cruises with gift cards also and I have been waiting for this site to have some available. I guess I won't be buying from them.

Oh, yes I know mom323 was being helpful. I wasn't being sarcastic or anything, I'm just mad at myself for not being more careful when I was reading the "fine print". I appreciate all of the help and advice I get here. In looking at the bright side- maybe I'll just HAVE to plan a trip to Disneyland, since it seems I can use the cards to book resort reservations there... :-)

Oh no I wasn't meaning that, sorry. It's crazy that they would let you use the cards to book resort reservations, but not dcl. Hope it all works out.
