Plantar fascitis

Everything the podiatrist did for me didn't work. Shots, ice, boot, pt and everything else. I ended up with surgery on both feet. I am now in prescription orthotics and the New Balance 927. The New Balance seemed to really work once I found them. Good luck!

Anyone know what causes this? I am a nurse and spend about 14 hours per shift on my feet and I have been having a lot of pain in one foot, bottom and back of my heel. Is this the kind of pain you all have? It is worst first thing in the morning, or after sitting for lunch break or whatever. Someone at work suggested it might be PF but I havent made it to the doctor yet. It is really getting worse though. Some days I can barely walk, and walking on the treadmill makes it hurt worse.

Not related. The word "plantar" refers to the bottom of the foot. The plantar fascia is a length of tough tissue that runs over the sole of the foot, under the skin. If it gets inflammed it can shorten, causing pain. Plantar warts are just a type of wart on the bottom of the foot. They also cause pain, but for a different reason. Plantar warts are caused by a virus.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll have to go to the dr. I have one on each foot and they really hurt!

WARNING*Possible TMI*

They are dime size and I have been able to cut them off with a kitchen knife, but they come right back. Ewwww. Sorry, I just grossed myself out.

I have PF in both feet and had tendon release surgery for the worse of the two feet which helped enormously.

.

My podiatrist told me I did self surgery in one of my feet that I had PF in. I was hopping up into one of the trucks at work and felt this horrible searing pain shoot across the bottom of my foot- I ripped the tendon in a similar way to what they would have done surgically and I have not had a problem with that foot again!

Yes, it sounds exactly like plantar fascitis. However, I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. ;) I would get it checked out by professional if I were you. :)

I have it in my right foot and so far nothing has made it go away. I have the ortho inserts, I have $150 sneakers, I roll my foot on a frozen water bottle, I've rolled it on a golf ball, I do the towel stretches, I do the stair stretches, I have a night brace to sleep in, I have prescription anti-inflamatories, I have a mini masseuse electronic pulse massager, and I never go barefoot. I've had it for a year now and absolutely nothing has helped. The only things I think I haven't tried are the cortisone shot (because I have heard so many nightmare stories) and/or surgery.

Your story sounds very familiar. I had custom sports orthotics made ($750). Did all the stretching, icing, new $250 shoes that I wear everywhere now. They all helped allieve the pain a little, but the only thing that really rid me of PF was visiting an Acupuncturist. The lady I saw was in Sydney Australia. She does Chinese Herbal, Remedial Massage and acupuncture. I went and within 4 x 45minute sessions, where she did 30minutes of Acu and 15minutes of remedial massage on the foot and calf, the PF had reduced by about 80%. Two more sessions and it was all but gone. I was in heaven and able to start playing sports again.

I still try and visit her once a month or so to have some remedial massage on my calves/foot and occassionally acu on my foot if I think the PF is coming back.

I highly recommend Acupuncture, and contrary to what I thought, it actually doesn't hurt.....much. The occassional needle in an aggravated area did "smart" a little, but its a whole let better than dealing with the PF. And its a hell of a lot better option than a Cortisone injection which hurts like hell and doesn't always work, and if it does, it normally returns within a week or two!

Good luck!

Just wanted to share.

I posted in this thread awhile back with info on what shoes I've worn to Disney and I still like them but I developed another issue under my toes on my left foot. I believe its from wearing flip flops and so does my Podiatrist. :(

I don't think it was the Orthaheels because I've worn them to Disney and to Bermuda. I still love them.

I think it was when I wore my usually very comfy "Rocket Dog" Crush thong flip flops dancing a few times. :( It affected that area below my toes and between my big toe and my 2nd toe.

Anyway, I'm going to Disney soon and was afraid to wear thonged flip flops all week with this new condition so I did some research. I was hoping to find nice Orthaheels that I could slip on with no luck.

In my search, I came across these:

Spenco KholoSandals

Zappos.com

I was able to buy them on sale for $35., free shipping, from Zappo.com yesterday and got them just now!! :) So far so good. They are lightweight and very comfy. Waterproof too. Build in arch support and some extra support for the area below my toes.

I can't wait to see how they are for the next few days and see if they are good enough to bring to Disney. I think they are. :thumbsup2

I will post an update after I wear them around for a few days. I may just buy another pair! :)
