I suffer from plantar fasciitis and of course it really flares up when I do a lot of walking at Disney. I went to the Good Feet store and they wanted $800 for their system! :scared1:

So I'm looking for some ideas of arch support that I can find over the counter. Does anyone out there also suffer from this and what if anything have you done to help it?

So far, I've tried a Dr. Scholl's insert but it really didn't help at all.

My Mom and older Brother both have had issues with plantar fasciitis

Mom did the good feet and other expensive shoes, they helped but we got her a pair of cheap walmart sandels for going to a messy event(did not ruin her expensive shoes) Well the earth shoes got rid of all the pain and they are all she wears now. After this my Brother tried them but they did not work for him, Merrels are his low pain shoes.Brother still uses night splints to reduce his foot pain,Good feet did not give him as much pain relief as Merrels. For both of them it is both the heel cup and the arch of a shoe that matters.
:hug:hope you find releif soon

I also have this. I did however get custom orthotics, cortisone injections, and physical therapy.but here are some suggestions to try at home. Get GOOD motion control gym running shoes. I wear Brooks Ariel. They cost about $130.00 but have helped so much. Also rub your feet with lotion. Get in there. You will here crunches and you want to try and break that up. Also google PF exercises. Do them every day. You also need to get a good stretch in your calf. Lastly forgo walmart, walgreens for orthotics go to a running shoe store they have better ones there. Good luck. Oh lastly Advil is gonna be your new friend along with freezing a water bottle put under your foot and roll it back and forth for about a half hour. Every morning before you get out of bed rub your feet and also pull back on your toes lifting up this wretches your PF. Lastly google Strassburg sock I have two and it helps....

A foot doctor make some arch supports insurance only covered half and they were $600 at the time and they killed my back and legs. so went to another foot doctor and he said try New Balance and be sure they good and wide and suggested get the mens and size as women wear smaller than men and after about a month or less have no more foot problems. may be luck may be the new balance but I swear by them. Crocks kill my feet by the way and my sister swears best for her:confused3

For me, I have to wear Asics gel tennis shoes and alternate my footwear with those and my Chaco sandals. Only thing I've found to help travel the world is to no wear the same shoes day after day.:)

Iwear Custom made orthotics but after I did a half marathon last year I was in so much pain I could hardly walk. My sports dr told me to roll my food over a frozen water bottle even if it didn't hurt and it helped so much.

I too have suffered from this.....I am also a runner, I began with going to a podiotrist. He put me on a z-pack anti inflammatory, I choose not to get the cortisone injection. He then fit me with an arch support that I can put into any shoe I wear, except my running shoes, which are Brooks addiction, they are a stability shoe for over pronating, which will cause plantar facitis.

It does take a long time to heal, so be patient....BEFORE you get out of bed you need to stretch the foot, 3 times for 30 seconds, I used one of my husbands old ties, looped it under my foot at the ball of the foot pull toward you and hold for 30 seconds, do this 3 times.

another thing my dr. said was DO NOT wear flip flops as they do not give you any arch support.

Please do your self a favor and go see a good foot dr. and go see a physical therapists that can tape it for you, this is also highly recommended.
I have done all of the above, and I am pain free now.
Good luck

DANSKOS!!!! These clogs are so amazing. They keep my pain level low. I alternate between those and crocs in thw inter (with warm socks and only at home). In the summer I live in Chaco sandals. They have an amazing foot bed arch support. They aren't flip flops but they're cute enough that I don't feel dowdy.

It is so important to find shoes with excellent arch support and then alternate shoes thorughout the day (work shoes and home shoes). Never go barefoot, ever.

I also massage my foot when it hurts. Rub it and really work the sore spots.

So agree with this, right on. And I was a complete flip flop girl. Probably what started my problems.

I agree. Our feet are what gets us around. See a good doctor, physical therapist and if you cant due to insurance ask doctor for exercises. Go online so many of the ones I do I have found there. ANd taping DEFINATELY helps..

I do not have this myself, but I have heard some people have good luck with special "socks" for night which keep the foot at the proper angle. This may be especially helpful since there is a lot of walking in WDW!

I use another product from the company Thermoskin, and they appear to have PF products. Just a thought.

I was fitted at a New Balance store. I do not wear men's shoes. Perhaps the doctor is only familar with the low-numbered consumer grade shoes sold at some department stores. The experienced fitters at NB stores should be able to get you into a style appropriate to your foot type and problems.

I have just started wearing the new Sketchers tone ups sandals and they are great!! NO pf pain in AM. Also stretch and roll foot over cold can or water bottle. The Sketchers sandals have a back strap, with lots of ankle support.
Also have velcro adjustable cloth straps in front so no bunion pain either!!

I have been walking a LOT in these!

Ready for WDW in 1 week 2 days with grandkids!!!

here is what FINALLY worked for me in the parks...(and believe me, I have tried some different things!)

1. Every morning and night (and at First Aid during the day if necessary), I ICED my feet - In the morning and night I put my feet in ice water (get a pan, bucket or use a bathtub - and put a little water and lots of ice) - it is SOOOOO cold and actually hurts - but this helped me a LOT.

2. Mobic - only available by prescription - is supposedly safer than other NSAID's and less irritating to the stomach. I took that this last trip and had few problems.

3. Advil - even with Mobic, I also took some Advil. I am pretty sure that is NOT recommended by doctors - but it got me through the day and didn't kill me. I would not do it every day - but for my Disney days, I decided to try to do whatever I could to walk without pain.

I still had some pain - but not excruciating pain.

foot problems. but i thought they were all in washington. just a little humor.:rotfl::lmao::rotfl2:

Just wanted to warn you. I went to the ideal feet store in my town to find some relief after hearing their radio ads, and when I tried them on the salesman used applied kinesthetics (the same hokey they use to sell powerbands) to try and make me believe these inserts were worth hundreds of dollars. Without the inserts, they would press down and away from my body, throwing me off balance. With the inserts, they would push down and slightly towards my body, so I would be solid. I didn't even go in there for balance issues, my heels were killing me! However after that, I assumed that since they resort to parlor tricks to sell their wares, they wouldn't do much to really help my feet.

i was trying to find away of saying that ...but you did a great job of summing up what i always believed.

There is a brace that you wear overnight. Most of the problems with plantar fascitis occur at night because you involuntarily bend your feet, which prevents healing. Go to any drugstore/pharmacy, and look for a brace made by Ortho. It is plastic and fabric that you put on your foot/ankle at night. It keeps your foot in a flexed position. DH got a LOT of relief from his PF by using this brace for about a week. He wears it whenever it flares up.

Things I find help w/o $$$ orthotics

Aleve - couldn't do without it

Ice, Ice baby

Ankle brace to prevent roll over at bedtime -- do this with my wrists, too, aka carpal tunnel...I'm a hot mess! :lmao:

Skechers shape ups really helped me along with having a lift in my shoe. My one leg is about 7mm longer than another, may not sound like much, but it's about 1/4 of an inch. Can throw everything out of whack!

Let your foot heal. Very important.
