We have 2 days at MK coming up for our trip

It is me, DH and DS5
I was thinking of RD Space Mountain and getting rider swap because my son is too scared to ride.

While I ride Space would it make sense for DH and DS5 to ride Tomorrowland Speedway?
I was thinking of saving the rider swap for DH to ride later so that we can take advantage of lower crowds for the first couple hours because I know that riding Space Mountain can eat up a fair amount of time.

Once I am done with Space and DH/DS5 are done with TMSW I was thinking that we could meet at Buzz and ride that

Does this make sense?

You cannot do rider swap if your son is large enough to go on the ride, only if they don’t meet the height requirement.

I don't think this is correct .... I just copied this from Disneyworld.com ....
What Is Rider Switch and How Does It Work?
If Guests in your party can’t or don’t want to board an attraction, you don’t have to miss out!

If a child does not meet the height requirement or a Guest does not wish to board a particular attraction, no problem! With Rider Switch, one adult can wait with the non-rider (or riders) while the rest of the party enjoys the attraction. When the other adult returns, they can supervise the non-riding Guests, and the waiting adult can board the attraction without having to wait in the regular line again!

The Disney website is full of errors, this is one of the biggest.

If a child is tall enough, but doesn't want to ride, the CAM is not supposed to issue a rider switch pass. The proper procedure is for everyone to go through the line and explain the situation to the loading CM, who will then tell you what to do.

Oh man.
Ok.
I have been told SO MANY different things about Rider Switch. Like, honestly, so many different opinions, experiences, etc that I don't know what to think anymore. So I am creating plans with every. possible. situation.
If they make us all go to the boarding area and have DH and I trade of with DS that will actually be ideal because then we can all just stay together and move on afterwards together. But I have been told that this is not always how it is done.
I was told that because DS5 is too young to wait by himself and because it can sometimes create confusion at the loading area when parents have to take turns waiting with the kid that SOMETIMES they issue a pass instead.
And SOMETIMES they just make the other adult go all the way through the standby line again (obv. the worst outcome here; but if it happens then what are you going to do but roll with the punches...)

I should have prefaced my original question with the following statement: "If the particular CM we encounter issues a pass and only one of us goes through the Space mountain line while the other parent goes off with the kid" then: While I ride Space would it make sense for DH and DS5 to ride Tomorrowland Speedway?

If anyone has anything to add to the Rider Switch debate, too, that's totally cool. It's just not really the info I was interested in knowing more about.

:)

Your plan does make sense; I don’t think anybody is debating the policy - simply stating it isn’t clear and you may or may not be able to keep the plan you currently have in place. It would just be smart to have a backup if things end up playing out differently.

Yes, it will work fine for them to ride the Speedway while you go on SM.

Edited to add - you all have to go together to SM first to get the rider switch. While it's possible they may so no, there's a good chance you'll get it. 5yo is still pretty young.
