These warnings are not to scare us but to make us aware. I appreciate the warnings and reminders to be on alert. We shouldn't live in fear and we should go about our regular routine but be more aware and alert.
The government can't win. They tell us there's a viable threat and it's a political ploy or a fear tactic, then if they don't say anything (because they don't have enough info yet) and something does happen those same people who thought it was a ploy and a un-necessary warning would want Bush's head on a platter for not warning us.
I don't think terrorist chatter works the way some of you think. Through many different means they get pieces of a puzzle but not every piece. The terrorists would never be specific. The chatter would just increase and we might catch that an attack is coming but I doubt it would ever be specifics. For them to have many reliable sources that they were at 70% ready and then a few months later it's at 90% that's pretty scary to me and I, for one, am very glad for any info they can pass on to us. I know they get a lot every single day and they only burden us with stuff that has been heard in several different ways before they come out with it.
They are probably waiting to raise the level because they just don't have enough information to warrant it yet. It does cost every single state more money when the level goes up. Of course, they should raise it with more information, but I guess they aren't ready to yet. Then if they do raise it and nothing happens for awhile and it goes back done, everyone complains again. I am VERY happy when it goes back down. I think, great they didn't attack us
this time.
I think they need to remind us every once in awhile to be alert and on guard. These people hate us and WILL attack again so we need to keep our eyes and ears open. Maybe we can prevent the next attack by being alert. Maybe by them coming on TV and making these announcements, the announcement themselves can change the terrorists' minds about that pending attack.
I'm all for whatever it takes to prevent another attack.
I'm not sure what some people want.

You don't want to know of any threats or info the government might have? You don't want them to tell us what they know UNLESS its exact details? Well, that's not going to happen unless somehow they capture a terrorist right before the attack by some stroke of luck or maybe by a very alert American who sees something.
Let's face it, things are different. They'll never be the same, sadly. I think the government is trying their darnest not to have another 9/11, why wouldn't they? I wouldn't want to be in their shoes with all the people second guessing them and trying to blame them for every thing or complaining that their doing too little or that they shouldn't warn us...I want to be warned and reminded. I want to know that the government is working on terrorism every single day and trying to prevent it however they possibly can.
So you only want to be warned with credible evidence of an exact attack with where, when and how it will happen? That's just not going to happen. I'll take what they can give me though.
Sorry for rambling but I get so frustated with all the negative replies to the terrorist attack warnings.
I did hear on the news yesterday that they (terrorists) may be focusing on the NorthEast Railroads. Too scary. My DH works in Boston and takes the train in everyday and my sister takes the train in every day from PA to NY. Scary stuff.
God bless America and God bless all our troops all over the world and all Americans all over the world.
