Help all of my great planning and budgeting are being shot down quickly. Thanks to these boards Okay so here is the story.
DH has taken a job in the Phoenix area. Which means we will follow shortly. This is the okay part. At least now we can fly Southwest and get great flight discounts. The bad part is that the schools are on different schedules than what we are used too. And now DH has asked that we wait 10 more months to go. So he will have enough vacation time also. We have all looked forward to going this Christmas. And now to have to wait. This is really alot to ask of my children ds(13) dd(11). How do I break the news?

I'm so sorry you may have to change your vacation plans. I know how excited the prospect of an approaching WDW vacation is.

You know...it stinks...but life throws curveballs at you sometimes. Personally, I think it is a good thing for kids to learn this early. Too many kids grow up being protected from every little thing. Then when they are adults they are often unable to deal with changes. If it were me I would just sit the kids down and explain it. If you have a positive approach they will be more likely to have a positive reaction. I would stress that it's DHs vacation too and that it is important to consider his feelings/options. Also, stress the fact that the trip is not off, merely postponed. Maybe you could take a weekend trip between now and the later WDW trip? I think that if you can find the positives everything will work out fine.

Just some thoughts. Good luck and safe moving!

denverdi,
Okay, it is going to be a bit of a disappointment, but how about a trip to Disneyland over a long weekend, instead? Disneyland has some fabulous Christmas decorations-- including It's a Small World and the Haunted Mansion decorated on the inside with a Christmas theme. I love the enormous Christmas tree they have on main street! Storybook Land has all the minatures decorated for Christmas, too. Oh! At Disneyland, if you buy a special pass (it's called a Passport Plus through AAA or Disney Travel Co you can get a special multi-day pass which permits you to have a Fastpass for all the rides at once (if you want!).
Phoenix is a hop-skip and a jump from the LA area via SWA. They have some tremendous specials sometimes. Plus, you don't HAVE to stay on Disney property to be really close to DL/CA Adventure.
Good luck!

-DC :)

It's a good drive, but it's not outrageously far. How about a new experience and try the Original Disney theme park for Christmas and then onto WDW in 10 months? The decorations are fantastic and the atmosphere and history of the park can't be beat.

And hey, nothing better than sitting on a beach for a day or two in December and the beach is only 25 mins from Disneyland!
