Planning trips

I enjoy reading about people's drives to and from WDW. I also would like to hear about people planning their trips. For example, since I am "on call" this weekend, I was not able to go with my family to visit their maternal grandparents in mid Georgia. So instead, I'm spending today as a "Disney Day". Meaning I'm spending the day tweaking our upcoming trip. I would really like to hear how other folks spend time planning their trips.

I just got back last month from a trip with 10 other people and I planned a lot for that one. 3 of the people that went had never been there before, so I put in some extra's because they thought it would be their only trip. They have now begun asking me if I can plan another for us all in 2 or 3 years.
DH, DS and I also have a trip coming in april, hadn't really planned it until I heard from my son that his HS Choir/Band is going to perform at EPCOT. I have only done 1 thing to plan for that trip (well 2 if you count buying tickets, but we already had our AP from the October trip,) we have made ressies at PC. The April trip I fear is just going to sneak up on us, because I am putting most of my "Planning energy" into a family reunion in Sept 2005. I typed up a 2 page letter with a map of Ft. Wilderness attached and a 3 page questionaire to help with the preliminary planning of that extended family reunion trip. I mailed out 40 of them and started receiving replies last week. I am absolutely loving this!!! I haven't received any "No, I can't go" yet. I made a spreadsheet to help keep track of responses, since there are 78 people involved. Now WDW site has a Magical Gatherings download that wasn't available when I made up my "packets" for my family. I'm sure we will use that, too.

oh yeah the planning part is 2/3's of the fun for me I spend several hours a week working on our next trip. A big EXCEL spreadsheet with every possible combination i can think of. Then i let everyone decide where and what and how long from what i have. Of course the other 1/3 of the fun is 4x's DS getting excited going past the Tower of Terror sign right as we get there.
