We’re planning on going back in 2020. It’ll be me & my husband, son 17 & daughter 7.
we usually stay deluxe in September and love it, but this time we’re looking at CSR. (Not the tower)
how does May or the last week of August compare to the lower crowds in the beginning of September?
Would you try a moderate or stick with a deluxe resort?
We like the easy transportation options of the deluxe’s since we park hop.

Late August and early September still tend to have lower crowds but an increased chance of heavy rain or hurricanes affecting your visit. I don’t think there is much of a difference between them.

May sees an uptick in crowd levels, compared to early September, in the latter part of the month but the weather is more temperate. So it can be a good trade off.

Think about what you value in a deluxe resort and then compare it to the moderate resort you’re considering. Every resort is going to require bus transportation to at least one park but of the moderates, only CBR has an alternative to buses to a park (Skyliner to Epcot and HS).

My personal choice would be to stick with a deluxe resort due to the better amenities and atmosphere. While I personally would not go during August or September due to the heat and humidity, the crowds can be lower. I have been there in October during a hurricane but there was no real issues other than rain and wind.

We usually travel once in May and once in Sept. and we typically stay in deluxe resorts, but last month we stayed in the Gran Destino Tower and we loved it. In fact, we just booked for a 10 day in GDT in May a few days ago. For the little bit of price difference, if you are use to deluxe resorts I'd highly recommend staying in the tower other wise I don't think the other areas will meet your expectations. The rooms are nice, but the distance from the CS at the resort and the bus system is going to leave you longing for something different. IOO
The nice thing about CRS is that it's less than 2 miles from AK, 3 miles HS and 4 miles from Epcot, so we took Uber back to GDT from all 3 of those parks. From what we've heard there are now dedicated buses to the parks from the GDT, which makes it more like a deluxe from that aspect.

I'd say last year the Sept. crowds were about a 4 and the May crowd was more like a 5.5. We noticed there were a lot of parents with toddlers compared to Sept. The only other issue is May is it's love bug season, so those can be annoying.

May crowds will be higher than late August or early September. Late August probably won't be much different from early September.

I book my resort based on my budget for that trip and the prices available. Sometimes, it is value, sometimes moderate and sometimes deluxe. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. but you do have to adjust expectations when moving from deluxe to a moderate. I would suggest staying in the tower at CSR as a way to move into a more moderate experience, while still having some deluxe features.

There is only bus transportation from CSR, but it's not too bad. and the location is reasonably central, so no theme park is really. distant. Park hopping works for us from any resort.

I would suggest trying g a moderate to see if you enjoy it...we do. If you are hesitant, you could try a split stay with your favourite deluxe. That way, if you aren't thrilled with CSR, you know that you are soon moving to the more familiar deluxe.

have fun choosing!

I stayed at CSR in September 2017. The room was really nice, and I had no complaints about the bus service, but I found the resort to be too spread out for me—it took me 10 minutes to walk from my room to the main building. That was especially annoying on the day I left, since I had to drag my suitcase up there because the bag service was shut down due to an incoming hurricane.
