Planning Our Happily Ever After - A Disneymoon PTR! (NEW 7/13 - TR Link!)

Seriously?! Of course we don't mind, you silly girl! That's why we are here, to read up on all the details! :yay:

I wanted to order one of those hangars for my wedding dress but the woman had temporarily closed her Etsy store. I can't wait to see it! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you don't mind me talking about the details! I have so many ideas floating around in my mind, I feel like I have to get them out! I do have a Disney-related update coming up soon, though! :goodvibes

WATER PARK ADVICE NEEDED!

Today is my second day of being out of work on a snow day! This is a very rare occurance for Atlanta. We might occasionally get a dusting, but we’ve been hit by quite the winter storm this time. We got approximately 5 inches at my house, which for the first time, is more than what the news was predicting. As time went on, it proceeded to sleet, causing a layer of ice to form over the snow. Needless to say, we have completely shut down. I predict we’ll probably start returning to work tomorrow, but in the meantime, the 4 day unexpected weekend has been very nice, and it's given me some time to do some wedding and disneymoon planning!

The snow is absolutely beautiful, but man is it cold! All of this frigid weather has me daydreaming about our honeymoon at the lush, tropical Poly. It’s also prompted me to start thinking about the time that we’re going to spend soaking up the sun at the water parks!

I will admit, I have never been much of a water park girl. We have two that are fairly close to my house, but I’ve never been to either one of them. As you’ve probably gathered by now, I’m not much of a daredevil when it comes to rides. The only thing worse than being terrified on a ride is being terrified on a ride in your bathing suit!

Miguel on the other hand, is quite the daredevil and has been begging to visit the Disney water parks since he knew they existed. This is the first trip that will allow the time, and provide the appropriate weather, so we’re going for it!

At first, I thought we would only visit one of the water parks, but we later decided to go to both. And surprisingly, I am really exicted! Even though I’ve never been in to water rides and the like, I am excited tro try something new: not just a new attraction or a new show or a new restaurant, but a whole park! Two whole parks!

The only problem: I know nothing about TL or BB. I can’t seem to find much info about either one on trip reports, so I’m kind of at a loss about how to plan for these two days. So I need your help! I’d like to know what rides to try out at each, and which one’s I should avoid.

So far I know I’ll be spending some time at the lazy river at both parks.

I also think the rides where multiple riders can be in one innertube look fun.

I know I’ll definitely be avoiding the body slides, and anything with a large drop (like Summit Plummit at BB!)

Any advice on attractions or general WP planning would be greatly appreciated!

I've never been much of a water park girl either. I had never been to one before our trip last year! But DBF wanted to go, so I gave it a try. And I loved it! We went to Typhoon Lagoon & it was so much fun.

We got there right at opening, which was nice because there were less people. The first thing we did was to to rent a locker. Then head to Crush 'n Gusher. We rode it about 3 times with no wait, but when we went back later in the day, there was a wait. We jsut kind of worked our way counter-clockwise around the park. There may be a better way, but we didn't have any issues! The longest we waited was about 10 minutes for one of the family raft rides. I think you'll have a great time!

Oh, something I did not enjoy was the wave pool. Even at the very far edge of it, there is still a lot of force. And the floor of it is kind of rough, so take water shoes. I was dumb and only took flip flops so they didn't help me out much!

But overall, I would definitely go back! Oh, and the donuts are very good! We got a box to eat as we were headed back to the Poly :)

Thank you so much for all of the advice! :goodvibes I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed TL, even though you you're not normally into water parks like me. TL is the one I'm most looking forward to. Miguel is of course looking forward to BB for Summit Plummit. :scared1:

I'm planning on us getting to the park right opening and I'm hoping we can accomplish everything we want to do by 2:00 or so. Do you remember how long you stayed?

Thanks for the tip about the wave pool - I think I've read that before. I definitely don't want us getting hurt!

I have to say that I prefer Typhoon over Blizzard. I have visited both a few times. In my opinion Typhoon is more laid back and relaxing. I loved the lazy rive and felt that Typhoon has more shaded areas probably because it has been around longer so the trees are bigger. I am like you and am not big into water parks. Blizzard I feel is more of a water park for those that like the action water rides like Miguel.

Definitely rent a locker like PP said and water shoes definitely help. Also getting there at opening is best so that you can get chairs in the shade as it will most likely hot.

I want to say we stayed around 3 hours or so. We wanted to have lunch at Captain Cook's (love the adult grilled cheese and dole whip!), so we got out of there before lunch time. But we did Crush 'n Gusher 3 times, DBF did some of the body slides (I watched!), we did 2 individual raft rides, spend time in the wave pool (once again, I stayed on the far outskirts of it), and the family raft ride. And then we also did a full trip around the lazy river. It was very fun and, like the PP poster said, very relaxing!

This is my second day out of work for the snow too! At first I was thrilled, but now I'm starting to get a little bit of cabin fever! Plus, now I have to work on Saturday to make up a day. :headache:

The only water park I have been to is Typhoon Lagoon. I'm not a huge water park fan, but as far as they go, this was definitely the best. When we went to TL I had planned for us to be there the entire day, but we had accomplished everything we wanted to do there and more before lunch, so my advice would be to have some alternate plans for the evening in case you finish up at the water parks early! :)

I have a feeling I will prefer TL and Miguel is going to like BB better, just because of the ride selection. TL looks very relaxing. :cloud9:

I'll definitely get some water shoes for Miguel and I. I hate walking around without shoes anyway, so I'd really hate walking around on the concrete barefoot.

Good to know! It sounds like we might not be there as long as I had planned. I have very fair skin, so I can't stay out in the sun for long anyway.

I wish I was out of this snow and floating down the lazy river right now! :cloud9:

I have cabin fever too! I can't believe this snow and ice - it's definitely unlike anything I've seen. Our highways look like skating rinks!

I'm pretty excited about TL. I have a feeling I won't like BB as much (although Miguel will probably love it). It sounds like 3 to 4 hours will probably be enough for us. I might have to schedule in some DTD time after the water parks. Thanks so much for the advice! :goodvibes

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the hanger idea!!!!!! That is AWESOME!!! And the shirts match the cups and are so cute too!!! So excited to hear that you get to go to Epcot in about 12 days!!!! YAY!!!! And as for the water park advice:: we had water park passes when we went for our disneymoon, and even though I am DEFINITELY not into water rides or excited we had waterpark passes, i LOVED it!!! It was a great way to take a break from the park rides and chill out and relax and get some sun and cool down in the water! Summit Plummet isnt that bad, and some of the drop ones make your stomach drop like roller coasters, but i LOVE roller coasters (just not heights LOL) I think it would be a good idea for something to in the middle of the day, or in the afternoon before getting ready for dinner :) Just my opinion though!!!

Thanks! I can't wait to see the hanger when it comes in - the seller said it would probably be about two months.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the water parks! It sounds like everyone who goes enjoys it, even if water parks aren't their thing.

I THINK I'm getting a snow day tomorrow, and I'm so excited, this will be the first of the year! Well, technically, we had one right after Christmas, but I already had the day off, so it didn't count! We're supposed to get 10-20 inches throughout CT!

Anyway, about the water parks...they are fun, but like you, I'm not much of a water park person. I did both BB and TL in one day, I think we were finished with both by 1. We went to BB first, right when it opened, stayed a couple hours, then went to TL and did what we wanted to do there, and then left.

I liked TL much better than BB...BB is all about the big, thrill slides, and honestly, they are not that thrilling! They're annoying! :rotfl: I went down Summit Plummit and it was over before I knew what was happening, and at the end of the slide, all the water that is at the bottom kind of hurts when it's pushing against you...and you have to stand up with a huge wedgie, which is really uncomfortable!

TL is a lot prettier, more tropical, and they have fun water slides. Crush N Gusher is awesome, but a word of advice-lift your butt up when you go over the things that propel you uphill, they hurt! :rotfl2: They have 3 regular old water slides that you just slide down that have twists and turns that are fun! And the wave pool is awesome for people who like wave pools...which I don't, but Brandon loved it! And the lazy river is fun...but I got bored with it kind of fast! I can't spend a lot of time in a pool, which is what I felt like I was doing in the lazy river!

Hope that helps! They are a lot of fun but you definitely don't need more than a couple hours at each one!

That helps a lot! I had originally planned for us to be at the water parks until mid-afternoon, but it sounds like we can be finished by lunch. That will give us some time to do other things during the afternoon, so I'm glad about that!

I hope you get a snow day tomorrow! We just got word that we're closed down again tomorrow. I'm starting to get really antsy - I just want to get out of the house!

I'm also not a water park girl. We've never been to either of them. Aisling is dying to go on our next trip but I just don't know. I'm hoping that Stormalong Bay will make her happy enough to forget about the parks. I took Aisling to our local one on the last day of summer vacation and ended up miserable...wicked dizzy because I forgot about Dramamine and I ended up hurting myself so many times trying to avoid Aisling going under at the end of the slide (she didn't care about going under...it was my issue ;)) At one point, 2 lifeguards came running over to me telling me that my arm had bent at a very unnatural angle and they thought I should see the medics :rolleyes1. And here I was thinking that the worst thing about waterparks was having to walk around in a bathing suit all day! :rotfl2:

We are planning on doing a waterpark next trip, too! Like you, I don't know much about the waterparks but I have been to BB (in 2004) so I definitely want to try Typhoon Lagoon. I love hearing from PP that it is relaxing, that's what I was hoping! :)

UGH-I am so jealous that you are getting a 5 day weekend! I find it so interesting, though, to learn about southern states being at standstills for days because of weather we here in Chicago get so often in the winter. That ice doesn't sound good at all, though! Eep! It's been snowing here since 6am, though we've only had an accumulation of around 5 inches or so. I am so looking forward to next month when I will be on the cruise!

Haha! You are so funny! I will admit, the walking around in a bathing suit is one of the reasons I don't like water parks! :lmao: I'm sure being there with a child would be a little scary. I would be paranoid about her going under, too! I'm paranoid about myself going under (drowning is my biggest fear), so I'll stick to the rides where there's a tube to cling on to!

I'm really looking forward to TL. It looks so nice and relaxing. I love the theming there. BB, not so much - that one is mostly for Miguel.

Yes, we southerners are always the brunt of the joke when snow comes in! We just can't handle it down here. They've been interviewing truck drivers who were stuck on one highway here for 24 hours. :scared1: They were not happy. I think our DOT has kind of failed on this one. It was fun at first but now I just want to leave. I'm actually looking forward to going back to work.

Actually I am not much a water park girl (love water, just not water park) and I adore the water parks! And don't count out the body slides. You have a yoga-type mat that you go down and they were a ball! I am not a Summit Plummett type of girl but I love the Toboggan Racers!! Its a simple race down and I love it!!!
Shark Reef is probably my favorite of all the sites. You get to snorkle with tropical fish and sharks (not big ones) and its beautiful. I would stay in all day if I could. A word of warning is it is cold!! As in take your breathe away cold. But after a bit you get used to it and its not that bad. I love Shark Reef. And just make sure your snorkle doesn't get below water....salt water hurts your throat.
To me one of the major differences is the main 'pool'. Typhoon Lagoon has a wave pool and Blizzard Beach has a bobbing pool. I enjoyed the bobbing pool, simply because you aren't worried about waves hitting you. We grabbed intertubes and loved the bobbing water. It was very relaxing. One major difference between this and the lazy river which basically has the same concept is depth. The lazy river is only around waist deep, so I liked the bobbing better. Oh and we love the family tube rides! They usually are pretty gentle, so a great way to ease yoursef in!
Just relax and enjoy yourself! And don't worry about running around in your swimsuit....everybody else will be doing the same! And trust me, you will see some older gentleman in a Speedo that.....well doesn't need to be in a Speedo. So relax! And all ears has some information. There is one ride I would shy away from, and I can't find the name of it. Its a body slide and you have to cross your ankles and cross your arms over your chest. Apparently many woman have lost their top and you have a horrible swimsuit 'crawl' if you get my drift. Just relax, have fun, and realize that you don't know any of these people so who cares what they think....unless its a DIS member and they are going to tease you no matter what! lol

PS I have started my trip review and there is some excitement coming so check it out!

Thanks for all of the advice, Leeane! Maybe I'll have to give the body slides some more thought. I really need to read up on all of the attractions so I'll be better prepared. :thumbsup2

I'm heading over to check out your TR now! :goodvibes
