Hi!
We have just made reservations for next May. Since there is no published prices for next year how do I make sure I get charged correctly for a partial hook up site? What they quoted seemed too high. I just paid the deposit for now.

I also want to introduce myself. I have been lurking. Every time I think of a question someone beats me to it.
We have driven to Orlando once before, camping along the way with a tent and a minivan. Once we arrived we stayed at the AKL. So this will be the first time actually camping in the Orlando area. This time we have a pop up camper. We don't have air conditioning but we didn't have any problems when we camped last time in June. Plan to bring a fan. That helped when we camped in Moab, Utah when the temps were in the 100s (well the pool helped too ;))

I was looking forward to FW until I heard about the bears. I am afraid of bears. That doesn't stop me from camping in Yellowstone so I guess I'll survive FW bears.

Fist of all :welcome:

The rates for 2011 probably won't be determined until around Aug. so they usually charge the premium rate deposit until everything is finalized. They will adjust everything accordingly once the rates are announced.

I think the difference you will find in Orlando vs the desert is the humidity..so the 80's in FL may be a little more uncomfortable than the 100's in the desert.

But you will still have fun..after all it's the FORT

You have more to worry about with the armadillos than the bears. We will be going for out 8 or 9 trip soon and I've never seen a bear and this is the first I've heard about them recently. I've seen just about everything else from deer to wild turkey and the destructive armadillo (they dig up dirt like crazy). Even seen a few snakes, but no bears. It is Florida though and wooded so it could happen, but don't count on it.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm really not going to get too worried about bears.;) Although DH says Stephen Colbert and I should get together to discuss bears. I've had worse encounters with turkeys. You don't realize how big they are until they go flying by your head.

We just got back from our first camping trip at the Fort early this morning. We live in the FL panhandle and see black bears fairly regularly, but never saw one at the camp ground. We made sure to put our food/cooler in the van each night and kept the site cleaned up and all was well. I agree with the PP that the armadillos were more of an issue as DH spent a couple of hours trying to chase one off our site on two nights. Persistent little bugger! We were tent camping and the temps were high but the fan was all we needed to stay cool in the evenings. Have fun!!!

I remember seeing my first live armadillo at the ASMusic. I thought they eat insects. Why are they a nuisance? Trying to get into tents?

Oh well, the only problem I really see is the humidity. If I wanted to be cut off from nature I'd have booked a room. :)

:welcome: Remember, the bears in Yellowstone are usually grizzly bears. Much larger. Besides maybe the bear everyone has seen is Yogi trying to convert to Disney. From what I remember the " refreshment " stealing otters are what you need to beware of.:) Have a great time at the fort.

Thanks again. I'm sure we'll have a great time, we always do. :)
