Not that I am rushing things but........I have to thank all of you :wave2: for helping out the new people and giving use quite an education!
As I am collection information on Where to live, now comes the question of how much. :crazy2:
How many points have you figued out you need in reality. I know already 150 isn't enough. :scared:
If you have a strategy/plan you used I am all ears.
Thank you.:thumbsup2

The number of points to purchase depends on some very personal vacation wants and desires as-well-as your family's work and school schedules.

If you have MS Excel, I invite you to download my DVC Point Calculator to experiment with different use years and various banking and borrowing scenarios to see what works best for you.

Good Luck...

Plan on the number of points you will likely need most years, and then add more. LOL! WE started with 230 and after the first stay knew it wasn't enough, so we added on 150 more. Those are all at one resort. Now we have added a few at a new resort, but in reality, it will never "be enough" if I want to spend more winter time there after retirement.

We figure for us based on vacationing three times a year in Disney, so I figure based on 2 bdrm accomodations and times of year, we will generally be needing around 1000 points! Yikes! It will take some time for us to get there. We are at 415 right now!

I have 200 now but would love to have about 500. That would be ideal, but I'd be happy just to add on another 50-100 this year to bring it up to 250-300 points. I could live with that for awhile

We started at 210, then added 100 when grandma and grandpa wanted to start coming down for a few nights with us (a great thing for babysitting). We justed added 110 more so we have enough when the kids get into school and we have to start going during the summer. I think we'll stay there for a while...at least that's what my DW says!

Look at what you are doing now. If you can afford to replicate that with points then there is a good starting point. Maybe the best advice is buy in contract sizes of 50 to 250 points. It appears that those are the most affordable in the resale market. And have more contracts gives you flexibility later in cutting back if needs/desires change.

We started with about 240 at SSR. Added 50 VB. Now are on waitlist for 150 BCV.

After that, I'd like to add about 200 OKW and we'll be done. Okay... maybe 200 OKW plus another 50 BCV on top of the 150 we're buying now, but that would really, really be enough.

That is blastphemy in most states.:rotfl2:

Thanks for the help from all the wannabe people.
Quick question: You can only combine points from two diff. homes for a 7 mo. ressie not 11mo. ressie.

That's right, you can only combine points at the 7 month ressie. That is why our two main contracts are at the same resort and with the same use year. Our smaller contract is to supplement those points either with a few nights here and there, or for a stay every third year.

Hey you're over here too!!! :wave2:

Hope you can work out a solution that fits your needs. Giving up those concierge rooms at the Poly will be tough but you never know you might like the "DVC way". I sure do. ::yes::

Kiddo I am everywhere......:crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: OCDing over this stuff. If I could finagle it before X-mas I might do it for a post Thanksgiving visit.:crazy2: :wave2: :crazy2: .
I had an easier time deciding to get married.:upsidedow

It's hard not to get crazy with all the information swimming around in your head, I practically drove myself insane researching our purchase. I think you'll find much more information here vs "the other place", people here are really "in the know" and this board has much more traffic. I wish you luck with your decision and don't OCD too much, enjoy the ride and the accompanying giddiness. It's a Disney high! pixiedust:

It really depends on you families needs.

We figured we needed about 270 and I rounded up to 300. I think this was a mistake. I should have gone a little lower and added on later. Happy with what we have just a tad too much. Also, should have broken that up into two contracts.

We estimated we needed 200 points so we purchased 250 just in case.
After our 1st TRIP HOME we found that this was not enough so a year after our 1st purchase we went for 2 more 150 point contracts. We now have a total of 550 point at BCV and every year we only bank 4,7 some minimal amount of points. We have really enjoyed DVC and although we sponsor family trips our daughter decided to purchase 300 point of her own at SSR.

What ever your decision purchase where you want to stay !!!!

we have 250 BWV and would like to have about 150 more:cool1:
