Planning Aulani: How much $$ would you take?

THanks for all the input everyone! I am going to print this thread. Waiting for the 7 mth mark at Aulani is going to be PAINFUL for an OCD planner such as myself :)

Right there with you, I found an awesome deal for flights this past weekend (4 first class tickets for less miles than coach fare) and am shoehorned into my dates. I have a backup reservation using my Marriott points for the 9 nights and am hoping to get something at Aulani at the 7 month mark...hope it isn't impossible! Looks like my money saved using airline miles will be spent on food!

I don't think you'll have a problem booking at the 7 month window for some time. We recently booked the two weeks around Easter and the agent commented that there was lots of availability. Maybe because it takes time for a new resort to sell the rooms already built. (I was also able to book BLT at the 7 month window the first Christmas/New Years it was open).

OK good, glad to hear this. I feel like with the cost that it is to fly to Hawaii for most people it would be a 2nd option over Walt Disney World especiallyfor those of us here on the East Coast. Also, since they stopped selling Aulani for now, it probably has cut down on 11 month window bookers. Just a guess :confused3

watch on restaurant.com when they have 80% off. We ate at a real great restaurant in Waikiki. I think it was at the top of the ilikae hotel. something like that. Great food and service. We sat and watched the sunset over Waikiki. Also get gift certificates from Marriott. they have some nice restaurants, I know one is casual at the beach in KoOlina. we have not been to Aulani but have stayed at Marriott KoOlina, which is right next door. We love it for the relaxation but also love Waikiki because of the things to do. Enjoy your trip, I try to get to Hawaii every 3 years.

We've been to Hawaii several times and you can expect costs in Hawaii to be above what you would spend on the mainland. Plan on at least a 25%to 50% increase in what you would spend at WDW.

You will need a rental car to see the sites. If you use Hotwire and pay in advance you will save about $100 per week on a rental. full size car for about $225 per week!

Enjoy your vacation and don't freak out. Hawaii is a little more expensive but you should not have to declare bankruptcy.
