Planning ahead - July 2006 DVC rental question

We have been thinking seriously about becoming DVC members since our last trip April 2004. We spoke with a DVC guide initially and then found this board upon our return - you guys have been an amazing wealth of information!! Thanks SO much!

We are planning a return trip in July 2006, and plan to check out OKW, as we think that's where we would like to buy resale. So, as DH doesn't want to buy sight unseen, we are thinking about renting points to stay there next year on our trip, so we can get a good feel for the place, plus save $$.

Now my question is, how soon should we look into renting points on the rent board - I mean how far in advance? I'm a planner, and like to get things done early as possible. This trip will celebrate younger DS's high school graduation, and as he is an avid golfer, I think he would love staying at OKW. We are looking at arriving on a Sunday and leaving on following Saturday - just don't know exact dates yet.

How hot and uncomfortable is it in July? We have only been in March, April & Nov. We get up early to do the parks, return at lunch to swim, rest, and then go back to parks at dinner and evening - I'm hoping this will spare us some of the heat - several redheads in the family!

Does renting points give any discount to the WDW golf facilities? I'm thinking one of us should get AP pass for the discount if not. Also -which golf course goes thru OKW?

If you have specific dates in mind and you rent from an OKW owner, you can make the reservation at the 11 month booking window. For that reason, you would probably want to rent at the 11 month window, which means August of this year.

I want to be very cautious about renting, & don't want to rent from someone with only limited posts here - but I don't want to be rude either. Is there a way to gracefully turn someone down that I'm not comfortable renting from? They may be perfectly fine to rent from, and I don't want to offend anyone, but I really want to rent from someone who is familiar with the process and is known on the boards.

Your best bet may be to read and respond to the "I have points for rent" threads instead of posting a "I want to rent points" thread. That way you initiate the contact and can choose who you want to deal with.
