Planning a trip to NYC and need some help please!

I'm reading through the New York thread on this board and really enjoying it. I think there are lots of Dissers who can possibly help me start as it will be a first trip for me DH and DD, although my DS has been staying in NJ and visited NYC for a day.
My first question; August or Christmas ?!

Please tell me why you would pick one or the other

I think you could get a better response if you posted this question on the current thread. There are many people with upcoming trips posting over there at the moment.

ETA: Sorry if that sounded harsh, I didn't mean it to! I just think the current thread has become a really good resource for those planning a trip to NY and it makes sense for all the helpful info to be in one place.

Iv have never been in august so can't comment on that but have been over christmas and its wonderful I didn't stay in NYC over christmas we went a ski lodge in New jersey for 3 days but stayed before and after it was busy before christmas not so much after and it was cold too but it was a great trip

August - very very hot and humid

Christmas - can be very very cold

Both times will be very busy.

I have been in April/November (for thanksgiving) - April - great weather - November was v cold and unbelieveably busy actually on Thanksgiving itself.

Do you have to go those times - spring or autumn may be better.

I have been 3 times now - 2 nights/6 nights and 5 nights - and i STILL havent had enough time there!!

You will have a fab time whenever you go

Depends on your choice of weather. I prefer August, because I like walking around and I don't the like the cold. During Christmas it is very expensive and more crowded. During Christmas there are more things to do. Radio City Music Hall has a great show during that time. Also you can go ice skating in Central Park and see the big tree, and New Year's Eve there is alot going on.
