Hello,

I'm planning a Family week vacation at DW and i'll like to know where I can find how many points we'll need to stay at one of Disney hotels.
That way we'll them be able to search for DVC points to buy.

Thanks for your help

Click on the DVC link at the top of the page which will take you to a page which shows you the points charts. You may have better luck if you post this question in the DVC subforum also!

I like this chart. http://www.dvcbyresale.com/pointsCharts.php

Your dates span Magic and Dream seasons, so don't look at the weekly rates. Use the night-by-night rates. And keep in mind that at this late date, you may not be able to get anything but OKW or SSR.

ETA: You can also use the points calculator located here:
http://www.dvcrequest.com/point_calculator.asp

It will give you the total number of points for your dates, for each room type and for any (and all) resorts you choose.

BTW, if you post what type of room and which resort you want, I can check availability for you. I have no points to rent out, just offering to check if this will even work out for you before you waste too much energy looking for someone to rent you points.

Hi Marionnette ,

Thank you very much for all the information - as you can see I'm new here - your help is precious.
I had a quick view of the points calcuilator and if I understood well for my dates it ranges from 75 pts @AK to 112pts for a Studio.
We are 4 (2adults + 2 kids). is that the price by person or for all 4?

Thanks for offering me to check avails. Here is my info
8/13 - 8/19
Studio ( 4 people)
NO ressort preference.

Do you think the lenght of our staying (7days/6 nights) is good for a First time?

Hi Techy! DVC resort room points are for the room only, regardless of the number or ages of the people that will be using the room. As long as you are within the capacity limit, you are fine.

I checked your dates and AKV does not have all of your dates available for a studio. The same is true for BCV, BWV, and BLT. SSR is currently showing availability (99 pts.) and OKW has a studio for 89 pts. Those would be the number of points needed for the 6 nights you've chosen.

I've been to Disney enough times that a 6-night trip is enough for me. But for a first-time visitor, it will be tough to get all of the nighttime activities in if you only stay for 6 nights. If this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, I would try to add a few nights. But if you expect to return sometime soon, then 6 nights should be plenty.

Perfect thank you Marionnette! Now I need to look for someine who's renting their points.

Since you seem to know a lot :-) do you have an idea of how much will cost
the Magic your way pass for 7 days and
the Magic Your Way Package Plus Dining Plan ( I heard this one has to be buy by the member doing our reservation)

I really could not tell you how much the dining plan will cost you without knowing hold old the kids are and which dining plan you want. However, there's an excellent calculator located here:
http://www.dvcrequest.com/dining_plan_calculator.asp
You will need to purchase the dining plan for everyone in the room and for each night of your stay. And yes, you pay the DVC owner and they turn around and pay Disney.

The Magic Your Way Plus Dining Package (room + tickets + dining plan) is not available to guests who are staying on DVC points.

You can buy tickets just about anywhere that sells them but I prefer to get mine through Uncovertourist's link in the Mousesavers newsletter. The price will vary depending on how old the kids are, whether you want to hop from park to park and whether you add the Waterpark Fun and More option to the tickets. Allears.net has a ticket price chart that shows the gate price for each ticket type. Check the link here:
http://allears.net/pl/ticketchart.htm
That would be the maximum you can expect to pay for your tickets, assuming that you purchase them prior to any price increases. Last year, Disney raised their prices in July. MYW tickets usually go up in August.

Techy pixiedust:

If you decide to stay at one of the non-DVC resorts, you can just book a package (room, tickets, dining plan) either online or over the phone and pay Disney directly. No need to rent points.

Since the All Stars are value resorts, this would be a less expensive option than renting DVC.

By the way, we will also be arriving on 8/13. We're going to try Port Orleans Riverside for the first time this trip. :)

Thanks for clarifying ...I\m new and my friend thought All Stars was also a DVC ressort.

Actually my parents are going with our two sons and they'll probably ne staying at OKW ... I'm just now looking for renting the pts!

Do you alreay have your Disney passes? I have been shopping around any tips or secret place to buy them :-)

Have a magic Day!

If you are not a DVC member, points are worthless to you. What you really need to do is purchase a reservation that a member makes with their points. You can get an idea of how many points you need by looking at the top of the DVC boards. You'll need to find a member who has points that they don't need and will make a reservation for you. So you aren't purchasing points, you are purchasing a reservation.

DVC points cannot be used at Value resorts. They can be used at Moderate and some Deluxe resorts, but the cost is more than if you stayed at a DVC resort.

Remember, you probably won't be able to change it, cancel it or get any refunds if you do need to cancel it. So think of it like a Priceline reservation. You won't be able to call to check on it. You won't be able to call to make requests or add Magical Express or the dining plan. The member you rent from will have to do that.

The member may require full payment to make the reservation or they may allow you to pay part now and the rest 45 to 60 days out. If you add the dining plan, it must be paid for when it is added. You can get your tickets anywhere because tickets aren't required with the dining plan purchase with a DVC points stay. And you won't be buying a package. Those are only available directly from Disney.

There are a number of threads about discounted tickets. There was one yesterday that has a link to Expedia.com where some of the tickets were a pretty good price. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2927642

A lot of us also like Undercovertourist.com and use the link in the Mousesavers.com newsletter to get a little bit more of a discount. You can sign up for the newsletter here. http://www.mousesavers.com/newsletter.html It comes out on the 15th of each month.

You might also want to see if there are any individual YES programs being run during your dates. The kids can take a cool class at Disney and everyone gets to buy discounted tickets for their visit.http://www.disneyyouth.com/individual-enrollment/

Historically, ticket prices go up in late July or early August, so don't wait to buy your tickets until you get to Disney. Most tickets do not expire if they have not been used. The exception would be promotional tickets like the YES program tickets and convention tickets.
