Just booked for Planet Hollywood through Keith Prowse.
Do you just turn up at the restaurant or do you need to book?

In the "old days", if you just turned up at PH, then you were in for a VERY long wait, and the chance you may not get in at all. The line used to be immense!

However, in recent times, PH now appears in the "top ten WORST places to eat at Disney" and its popularity is severely diminshed. I last ate there in 98, and it was truly awful and expensive.....you dont often get a bad meal in the states, but I have to say this wasnt good. They seemed to be capitalising in on the fact people would put up with bad food just to eat with some old movie junk......recently though, we are all wising up! They cant serve cold/poor quality/bad tasting stuff and charge a fortune for it.

I did hear that the menu has been revamped, and Im sure you will get tons of replies to this thread with positive opions of the place. I have to say, personally, I could name you 20 other restaurants on Disney Property where you could eat a whole lot better for the same money.

If you want to go for PH, then a reservation for lunch isnt needed, but you might want to book something for a dinner to omit having to hang around for a table. Be wary of the "dinner packages" as it can work out more expensive if you just want a burger and no appetiser or dessert.

Hope you enjoy your stay!
Allie.

We have already paid for the meal via Keith Prowse which guarentees VIP entrance and a $15 merchandise voucher per person. Doesn't say in the booklet if you need to book though.

Gosh, sorry didnt realise you had already booked. My post must look really negative, but on the upside, it IS a fun place to visit, especially for kids. You will almost certainly enjoy the experience if not the food so much!! As I said, I think the place has now got a new menu, so we would all love to hear about it when you return.

I think, VIP seating, means you can just turn up and jump the queue (if there is one). Thats how it used to work when we booked through Virgin. In those days though, you HAD to go on a Tuesday or Wednesday.......this may have changed as its not nearly so popular now. Read the terms on your voucher to be sure.

Have a great time.
Allie.

Many of the PH's in the US have closed down and had some very poor reviews, I thought the one in Orlando was one of the better branches and while the food isn't gourmet, it wasn't a bad stab at the genre of "personality cafes". The film memorabillia is fun and I'm sure the kids will have fun. I do believe they have "upped the quality" since so many of the other places closed down.

I think the VIP aspect means you don't have to book/queue, but if you're in Orlando a couple of days before you plan to visit the restaurant it can't harm to give them a call to clarify the situation.

Hi

I don't know about the booking, but I've eaten at Planet Hollywood in London, Orlando and Paris and I enjoyed it every time. As far as I'm aware the menus are pretty much the same if not identical everywhere.

I'm guessing with the VIP entrance that you just go to the front of the queue....but maybe contact Keith Prowse or PH to check.

Have a great time there, it's really interesting to see all the movie memorabilia.

Hi,

Cant answer your question about the booking but wanted to say thay I ate there last week and the food was gorgeous.

We went at about 6 and only had to wait for 5 minutes, just long enough to buy a drink at the bar.

I love the whole atmosphere of the place and the Strawberry Shortcake dessert was 'to die for'

I had the pork chop and garlic mash and my Husband had the salmon and garlic mash. The portions are huge and well worth the money.

Hope you have a good time.

We ate there twice in the last 2 weeks (2nd visit was accidental as the (d)rainforest cafe had a 2.5 hour wait for a table in downtown.

1st visit we had to wait 15 mins for a table, and 2nd one was walk straight through.

I've been to 4 PH's and this one rates as highly as London. DLP outlet was not nice and like a zoo and I won't even begin to describe our experiences in the New York one.

The food this time on both occasions was of good quality and timely with very good waiter service. My only gripe is that the beer is too pricey, but this is often the case in Florida.

Best appetiser was the blackened shrimp IMO and the ribs hang off both sides of your oval plate!

Merchandise shop has 'gone down the toilet' with few clearly branded items although look out for the 'globehead' ceramic cocktail glass/statue which you can also buy with your drink in the restaurant.

We went in 2001 & enjoyed it, food fine.

Espoecially popular with our 3 kids who were 14, 10, & 9 at the time I think!!!!

We went there last year for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We only has to wait 5 minutes also although I understand that it gets busy later in the evening.
We had a laugh with the waiter and the food was great too.
I plan to go again this year and don't feel "put off" - we all have our opinions, good or bad.
