Planet Hollywood Should we try it?

HI! Another dining question. I see there is a thread on here about Planet Hollywood vouchers. I do not have those, but was considering making an ADR for Planet Hollywood for our July trip, on the night we do Pleasure Island. Now that we are DVC members, and probably visiting WDW atleast once a year, I am trying to book new places each trip and was considering Planet Hollywood. On that other thread, however, I read some negative reviews of Planet Hollywood. Should my DH, DS(13) and I try it for our July trip. It sounds like a fun place. We tried the Rainforest Cafe when in DL two years ago and enjoyed that so I thought we might like PH. What do you think?

It is definitely an experience. I've only done it as a CM and/or meeting friends while I'm in the area. I haven't had a bad meal there, but nothing was anywhere close to great. And I've read far more bad reviews than good ones over the years. Honestly, I would look at other new experiences before PH...especially since there are so many really good restaurants on property.

I wish I had a good rec for DTD for you, but I haven't spent a lot of time eating there. Sorry.

I love trying a new place every trip, so I think that's a great plan. We last ate at PH in October 2004. It was ok. The food was fine, not memorable. Actually, the best thing was the parmesan cheese chip that was garnish on my meal. (We were on very strict Atkins at that point and this was a whole new snack for us.) I won't be rushing back mostly because of the noise. The music was so loud, it was nearly impossible to have a conversation.

You will read good and bad reviews of just about everything here. I read everything, look at the menus on Deb's site and then usually go and try the new place. Enjoy!

Thanks for your quick responses. I did just look at PH menu again and I like the fact that it has variety. This is good for my dh who enjoys choice and ds who is somewhat a picky eater as far as with sauces etc. The fact that you mentioned it is really loud, Merriwind, might be a turn off for my dh. Oh, I can not decide what to do. I know what you mean about mixed reviews on so many of these restaurants. I know sometimes you just need to try a place for yourself and see I guess. Thanks again for your responses!!

I think if you are all gung-ho to try it, you oughtta. I never listen to all the bad reviews (like, Alfredo's!) and go find out for myself. But I usually find out they were right (like, Alfredo's!)

We were unimpressed with PH. Edible (but not yummy) food, average service, and, well, it was a little boring.

But it sure is a neat building!

We went on our last trip, and I have to agree that it is VERY loud in there. But with 4 kids all under 8 years old, they just loved it. I've got some really cute video of them seat-dancing at the table and singing along with the songs.

The food was good IMO. The appetizers were very yummy. I am glad we went. It was a cool restaurant, not your average run of the mill place. We liked it.

I've been twice. Not really my thing, but may be fun for kids. It is really loud, and I advise to stay away from the burger. I got it the first time we went and it sat like a lead weight in my stomach. Next time I got pasta (not bad). I warned my dad and DF about the burger, but they got it anyway. They were not impressed with it at all.

Personally, we enjoy the food at House of Blues more.

We ate there a couple of weeks ago. It was so loud I couldn't hear the others at the table - and we arrived at 5, were seated right away, didn't get our entrees until about 5:40, and by the time we got desserts and left it was about 6:45.

They won't take priority seatings on the same day as the seating, btw.

Personally, I wouldn't eat there again. My kids just stared at the TVs, full of MTV stuff and such that we don't usually like to watch.

If you are on the dining plan, it is one of the few DTD places that take the plan. But if you are not using up dining plan credits, I'd go elsewhere, myself.

I don't care for it at all. Tables are so close together I could grab fries off the guy next to me It's so loud we couldn't hear each other or our waiter. The food is so-so, not any better than a TGI Fridays but twice the price.

To me, it's a tourist trap. Course, they have locations all over and I've been to other PHs. Matter of fact, the one in Dallas closed because locals wouldn't go there. If you have someone who's a movie buff and wants to check out the decor it might be worth stopping in for desserts and drinks or something but I can't imagine choosing it otherwise. There are SO many great, Disney exclusive spots at WDW in the same price range that I would much rather dine at.

I don't recommend PH - there are a lot better restaurants. Like Raglan Road. Even McDs is better.

Planet Hollywood is tolerable, but not a great experience. VERY loud in there, and does not make up for it with ambience as Rainforest Cafe does. The food was so-so, our waiter was the rudest I have ever had--anywhere--and it was massively overpriced. Having said that, there's always, of course, different strokes for different folks.

NO NO NO..dont waste your time or money.....its pretty bad when my daughter to this day remembers her grilled cheese and how yucky it was....the food is nothing special and wayyyyyy overpriced...go to the rainforest cafe instead..

My stomach turns from the thought of even going back there. Its gross. We have one here in Toronto and its not bad but the one in WDW was horrible. The food was undercooked and it was soooo loud in there. It was a good thing we have the free voucher for that place because I would not have paid for that meal. Are chicken fingers suposed to be wet? DH and I felt queezy for the next day after that expierence. Never never again.

I know Im in the minority on this one, but we have always enjoyed our meals there. I think the LA Lasanga is delicious. We have also been impressed with burgers and other pasta dishes. Portiones seemed to be very large too. While it is loud in there, that doesnt bother us, and I feel it adds to the experience of the restaurant.

We brought friends with us one time and at first they looked at the menu and felt it was overpriced. After the meal they said it wasn't over priced, but well worth it.

I think you will find good and bad reviews on any restaurant that you ask for. We ate there in November and it was one of the best meals we had on our trip. The portions were huge and the desserts were delicious! It is very loud, but its just one of those types of restaurants. It probably is overpriced but so is everything else in Disney World. We loved it!! :thewave:

I think I am in the minority as well. We were there in early November, and loved our meals. I also had the L.A. Lasagna, it was awsome. DH had a burger and said it was outstanding. Kids ordered kids meals, can't remember what they had, but both seemed to eat most of their meals. I would definately go again.

We go every time we go to Disney, our daughters love it, I don't think it's really about the food, it's the atmosphere and our girls are hooked, they think every thing there is "Cool"
