The media is reporting that an Air France jet skidded on a runway upon landing at the Pearson International Airport and then caught fire.....there is no reports of casualties as of yet. The CBC says as many as 200 are on board the plane. There were severe storms going on as the plane was coming in.

Yes, I work at CBC in television. It happened around 3:50 p.m.

From the Associated Press wires:
"Police said the plane was an Air France A340 from Paris that was
trying to land when it ran into trouble. There was a storm -- with
lightning and strong wind gusts -- in the area at the time.
There was no immediate word on casualties. Reports said the jet
had about 200 aboard.
A row of emergency vehicles lined up behind the wreck, and a
fire truck sprayed the flames with water.
A portion of the plane's wing could be seen jutting from the
trees as smoke and flames poured from the middle of its broken
fuselage. At one point, another huge plume of smoke emerged from
the wreckage, but it wasn't clear whether it was from an explosion."

Hi tone.def

I work at CBC Television as well. Where do you work?

It looks like there are survivors (thank God) CBC is talking to one of the first people off the plane right now.

Some people are saying that they saw a flash of lightening and then the plane went down. I hope everyone survived.

bbc news 24 here in the uk are reporting that there were 291 passengers/crew on board and that they beleive they have all survived

CNN just had a reporter from City TV saying his sources at the airport tyold him that all the passengers got out. A Miracle!

CBC is reporting that there are injuries but no deaths. Thank God! Someone was watching over them.

Even though, as a Lutheran minister, I'm inclined to suggest that a higher power had some involvement in the preservation of those onboard AF 358, I would suggest that God acted through the flight attendants who helped the passengers escape safely.

Thankfully the flight staff was trained well and the occupants allready had thier seatbelts on for the landing I have a feeling that is what saved all their lives.

Okay tone.def and Mickey Fanatic,

This is getting silly...

Me too! lol

Dis meet at Ooh La La?

Oh... and I was in the air flying into Pearson when all this happened. Must say thank you to WestJet for re-directing us through London. Thank goodness all are okay.
