Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

For us, who usually stay on site, selfishly would want 1 day or no advance booking for offsite.
I completely agree with you, however, this only applies to American tourists. Jim from Kissimmee staying at the Super 8 will get to choose his selections 3 days before arriving, whereas a Canadian shelling out for 2 weeks at a deluxe resort (aka me) won't get to make my selections until I arrive on american soil. That is frustrating.

My TA has just re emailed to say they have received more details and you do have to be in USA to prebook. I cant see any ‘fixes’ being done~ it was said the enchanting extras and other dining glitches would be available to book at some stage and that that has never happened

I am lucky in a way, because I do not travel until August 2025, and maybe things will have changed by then for international guests. But then again it may not, and it's just added stress, I should only be feeling excitement!

I have emailed Disney and also signed the petition.
what email address did you use? and where is the petition?

I didn't realize that internationals staying onsite have this challenge. That would be rough.

These changes are positive in my opinion. Very similar to the defunct FastPass+, which I took full advantage of. However, I remain bitter about paying upward of $27/day for a perk that used to be free and I still believe I will not opt-in for Lightening Lane.
Heck, I still miss the free MagicBand's offered to onsite guests.

I had totally forgotten about free MagicBands! Those were the days ;)

I really hope that VPN will be a workaround or that Disney realised that this rule is not okay.
I'm reading that VPN won't work because it's through location services on the phone. Unfortunately, my party can't take the risk of trying because we are arriving on July 27th. I can't believe i'm actually typing the words, but on the 24th we are going to drive down to the states to do the selections. I've done a lot of hoop jumping for the mouse, but this one takes the cake.

They should just bake it in to the cost of the rooms for the onsite guests. Then have a separate charge only for the off-site guests. Basically exactly like Universal does.

Though I guess you could argue with the current system you can choose not to pay for it, whereas it would be automatic if included with room.

First magic bands for international guests, now this. People saying this is possibly an international law issue or an app geolocation issue, possibly. But MagicBands and fast pass never used to be an issue for anyone no matter where they lived. I don’t think this will be fixed, and I don’t think Disney cares.

I'm so excited for this change. There are hardly even 3 rides in each park with unbearably long lines anyway. If I can guarantee the 3 I don't want to stand in like for I'm golden. It's better than what is happening now where if I have to wait 4 hours after park opening my 3rd choice is gone.
These were my thoughts until I saw the dreaded tier system will be in place again!

We will find out about this international rule in less than a month. In the meantime, I suggest everyone relax a little bit. This "rule" makes zero sense, if they're ok accepting thousands of dollars from international folks months and months prior to arrival, why all the sudden they can't accept tens of dollars 7 days prior.

Agree. Weren't initial Genie+ numbers something like 50%? If this is like old FP+ but only 50% of people buy in then that is a big difference.

I would imagine they will let us pay more for an option to park hop with our passes.
Bob Chapek had said approx 50% utilization in a 2022 earnings call, but since then I feel like I recall Iger saying something like 70% utilization in a recent call. I've listened to every call as a shareholder. You also have to consider that 70% could mean that closer to 100% of guests use it, but not every single day. Or that stat could be manipulated to be 70% utilize it for at least 50% of their park days, we really don't know other than that the utilization has risen since early days of G+, hence allowing them to go from $15 at the start to dynamic pricing that can hit $39 around Christmas.

'Lucky' me is only planning to travel back in October 2025 and who knows how the system looks by then. But if the system will remain as it currently looks like, I will reconsider spending more than in WDW vs Universal... we'll see!

It seems from the blog sites I’ve seen there are fewer rides available for Genie + - I noticed Meet Ariel and Enchanted Tales with Belle did not have a Genie+ option listed for the new system.

So is this 7 days from checking into room or 7 days from first park day? We still select the day we want to purchase a park ticket for, correct? Thank you!

I just got off the phone with Disney, as we had to modify our tickets for our upcoming trip. The customer service rep asked me if I was aware of the new changes to Genie. I told her that I was aware, and that I was disappointed that international guests were not having the opportunity to book in advance, despite my 14 days booked at a deluxe resort. She had no idea what I was talking about. She then pulled up her document on it, and went to the FAQ portion. She read the whole thing aloud to me, and then went "oh.. my.. gosh...." and then read line ten to me which stated "for international guests, while they will be able to utilize this service, it will not be available until they arrive to the United States." She then messaged her team lead, who confirmed the change.

For those who were wanting confirmation from Disney.

She said she was so embarrassed because had I not brought that to her attention, she would have been giving incorrect information. She said we would be vocal about this with her lead and make sure that the correct information is given out to people.

Why is Disney trying to sneak this through? I do not know.
This is so odd and unfair. Given that Disney often gives promotions for international customers that aren’t available to domestic customers, it seems unlikely that this is some Disney conspiracy to treat international customers poorly, but, instead, some sort of IT issue or external issue. Regardless, I expect this to change.

We are also arriving on the 27th…and that same thought crossed my mind, to drive to the closest American state, which is a couple hours away, but then I changed my mind quickly. I think the first day of this new system will be a nightmare for everyone, we might not even be able to access it, let alone try to book something.
