Anyone sailing out of New York, if you went to NY a day before your cruise, where did you stay? Looking for a safe, reasonably priced, convenient hotel in NY (yes, I know, nothing's cheap in NY) for 1 a one night stay prior to our cruise in October. There will be 5 of us: 3 adults & 2 kids.
Also, if you drove, where do you park during the cruise? About what does it cost. We've only ever cruised out of Miami, so no clue even where the port is in relation to anything else.

We stayed at The Marriott Marquis before our cruise in 2012.
We took a cab to the port.

If you park at the cruise terminal it is $40 per day. There are some off site parking places that are less expensive, but I'm sorry, I don't know the details on those. I know I've seen them discussed on here before, so if you do a search hopefully you can find them. ( I know the search function can be kind of wonky sometimes). Also check out Cruise Critic's port forums. You will find tons of NY info on there.

I always mention this option though, when it comes to driving to NYC for a cruise. If you aren't looking to do any sightseeing in the city itself and are just looking for a place to lay your head the night before, there is a great option in New Jersey. Check out the stay, park and cruise package at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ridgefield Park, NJ (listed under the special offers section on the hotel's website). It's a nice hotel in a safe area. The package includes your room, breakfast, parking for the duration of the cruise and transportation to and from the cruise terminal by private town car. Depending on the length of your cruise, it can actually cost about the same or just slightly more than parking at the terminal would.

Thank you for your suggestions.
Anyone else have any ideas. All would be greatly appreciated.

My parents really love the Hampton Inn Times Square...I forget the designation. It’s on 41st though. New and really nice.

Look at the Best Western Hospitality House. Because you have five people, you will have difficulty finding a room that can accommodate all of you. This hotel is a former condo that was converted to a hotel so it is more apartment style and can host larger groups per room. Rates aren’t unreasonable either.
